Hemi to diesel

Has anyone gone from a hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee to a diesel. I have a 2012 Summit and am thinking of going to a 2014 Summit diesel.

Re: Hemi to diesel

On the WK2 board there is a member that went from a Hemi to diesel. I think he had issues with his hemi however.

Re: Hemi to diesel

I have. Went from a 2011 Hemi Overland to 2014 Overland Diesel. In short, very similar power to the Hemi and better fuel economy. Only thing I miss about the Hemi is that great V8 grunt sound when you punch it.

Re: Hemi to diesel

I had a 2012 summit w/Hemi and loved it! I hated the gas mileage though. I just traded my Summit and got a loaded 2014 Overland 3.0 Diesel. I've only had it 2 days and it's great! I drove Seattle to Portland and back (28.4 mpg). The very best tank I ever got with my Hemi was 17.2, the next best tank ever was 16. My average MPG through 24K miles was 14.1 mpg.

I have a 14' enclosed dual axle motor cycle trailer that I'm looking forward to towing with the new GC. I have no doubt it will handle it every bit as well as the Hemi did.

I can also say that the upgraded dash and entertainment system are leaps and bounds above the 2012.

Fun2drive, that was me...yes, it was slightly troubled, maybe a late Friday afternoon build . Makes me laugh when people say they didn't like hemi gas mileage...what did you think it was going to get? We got about 15.5 overall, and been about 20-22 in the diesel so far. Would've kept the hemi for a while if not for the trouble, was getting ready to get a corsa to go with the intake to really make it sing...oh well very happy with the 8spd diesel combo, usually right in the fat of the torque band

Re: Hemi to diesel

Thanks for the information. I guess I didn't need too much convincing. Picked up a black diesel summit today.

Yep. People know going in the Hemi isn't gonna impress at the pumps.....neither does my Shelby GT500!!

The hemi tank needs to be maybe 5 more gallons. I hated filling up the dang thing every 4 days. But I didn't expect Jeep to know my wife drives 25K a year either!

The diesel is powerful, and gets me that 1 week fill up interval I personally was looking for.

Re: Hemi to diesel

So far the 2014 has been great. It is a lot torquier (not sure if that's a word) than the hemi with 6 speed. It also feels a lot faster from 30-60 or 60 to 80. The interior on the 2014 Summit is also way better than the 2012. Overall I think it was a good purchase. I got black and it looks great when it's clean but this is my first black car and I think I'm regretting the color choice.

Route 66 is a splendid one to behold
You must have missed the old saying - "you don't own a black car, a black car owns you."

Re: Hemi to diesel

I like "Black isn't a color, its a lifestyle choice." Either way its true enough for me, black positively drives me mad. I last owned it a couple cars ago after a long hiatus. In other words long enough to forget. lol
