Sorry Raven, but it is not that cut and dry. What you say would be true if it was a non-SCR system and somebody added a third party SCR to it at some point (like a Tier II certified generator set that somebody added a SCR system to in the field to comply with local regulations for NOX output). In that case the third party SCR would have no virtually no impact on the performance of the engine, other than adding a bit of exhaust backpressure.

But in the case of our Jeeps, and other similar on-highway vehicles, the EPA holds Jeep accountable for making sure the system is tamper proof and remains in operation when the engine is in operation. The control software knows what is going on in terms of pre/post SCR NOX levels and will no doubt manipulate EGR flow accordingly.

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

My dealer drained my DEF at 6300 miles after my "incorrect DEF". They only refilled to 1/4 tank and I put 3500 miles on it since without the gauge moving. I just noticed this thread but figured I'd add that data point.

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

Two months ago I drained my DEF tank and then added back in just over 2 gal of fluid as per Raven"s instructions. The gauge then indicated just slightly over 1/4 tank. I have since driven about 1500 miles and now the DEF gauge shows about 1/8 tank so apparently the procedure failed to work in my case. I am really disappointed

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

I just got my wife Jeep back today from this same scenario. We have been back and forth with the DEF issues with injector. 3 times it wanted to shut down saying it was low on my wife and the gauge read 1/2 or better. Last major issues I filled it up till it was over flowing. Dealer said the injector was clogged and I should have seen crystals on the ground or in the garage. Negative unless my dogs were licking it up. They had the vehicle for 3 weeks bc they didn't realize they needed to drive the vehicle 60 miles or something. It was at 75% exactly where it was when I dropped it off for service? I called back to question why they did not fill it back up. The service rep told me he would see if it was topped off or not and contact me back. I didn't hear anything back. It was also due for a Oil change so I scheduled for this and my wife put about another 1200miles on it so the DEF gauge should have moved. Never dropped at all. After the service the Mechanic said it's at 75% and filled up with 2.5 gallons from what they removed. I laughed but that was exactly the same as it was when I dropped it off. His face turned red. He felt stupid not realizing I knew it was working or something. The service rep then started preceding to tell me then it's good if its not moving. I laughed and said no. Its either not reading or it's not working. I said I would rather it not be on there at all to be honest. So maybe they know this trick but not entitled to tell. But as a warrantied vehicle. I don't mind it working or to be known not working. As of now it will be over looked and as it's good. Who says a recall comes in a flash the ECM then bam I'm back in the same crap but paying. I would love to delete in and put some more power behind the wheel. No inspections in my area at all. I don't care for rolling black smoke out of a Summit tho. lol.
Maybe my 3/4" Silverado.
