I followed your instructions and did the procedure 2 weeks ago on 9/9 and have since driven about 450 miles. When I added the DEF back into the tank the gauge showed just over a 1/4 tank. I was disappointed today when I checked the gauge and it showed just below the 1/4 mark. In 4 weeks I will be taking a 900 mile road trip so I will check it then and report back.

It should stop just under 1/4 tank

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

Raven, do you know the reason why this drain/refill causes the DEF system and diagnostics to stop working? Software bug? Confused DEF algorithm just gives up? Why do the downstream NOx sensor readings not trip the CEL?

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

I have NOT done the draining procedure and my DEF has never been empty, but my def gauge hasnt moved in over 2000 miles since i got the computer reflash after a high reductant pressire engine code.
Is there any harm that can come from the def system not functioning?

None that has been reported. If you don't get a CEL, drive it! If you do, see your dealer.

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

I have been driving it over 2000 miles since reflash. No CEL, no movement of def gauge either....and no 'keep driving regen in progress' message since reflash either even though i was getting them regularly before the reflash.

is it possible the reflash on 'reductant pressure too high' code vehicles (which is why i took it in for tsb) disabled the def and changed the regen processing in leiu of fixing or replacing the def system?

My only concern is that the def in my tank has a limited shelf life and if it isnt being used could it gunk up the system ?

The regen message is a DPF related warning and has nothing to do with the SCR system and DEF.

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

Ok. So then it is just coincidence that i got the 'regen in process' message every 1000-1500 miles before the reflash but havent gotten one in over 2000 miles after the reflash. Could the reflash have changed anything to do with dpf also? It seems to have shut down my def usage altogether which is fine with me if that doesnt cause other issues.

If your DPF stops regenning you will have big issues
