The two things i know are the def gauge hasnt budged since reflash and this is the longest the car has gone without me seeing a 'regen in progress' message on the dash.

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

My DEF level indicator has been stuck at a little over half for the last 1000 miles. I have 4500 miles on the car and have not added any yet.

Any recommendations?

I understand that heading into winter that I shouldn't keep the tank full.

Add about 2 gallons back to tank. Voila! No more DEF injection.

I have driven almost 6k and haven't used a drop and no errors or codes. Worked on a buddies as well.

When draining the DEF tank via the pump...you indicated it took several hours to do this. I am planning performing your procedure this weekend. Do you think removing the DEF filler cap would allow the pressure to equalize and perhaps drain faster?

Welcome back Raven.

I wonder if a positive pressure would evacuate it quicker?

A little.. problem is the tiny hole. If I wanted to make it quick I'd just use the pump "hot wire" it on.

Is there any harm that can come from the def system not functioning?
I would be wary of doing a DEF delete. This is just my opinion since I am not a diesel expert (This is my first diesel). Urea solution inject/SCR is used to reduce NOx emissions which helps this engine to meet euro 5 standards and keep the EPA happy. NOx is produced when combustion temperatures get elevated such as in a turbo diesel. One way to keep temps lower is to use exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), but the problem with this is soot build-up in the intake tract. The engine is sucking in some of it's own oxygen reduced/soot laden exhaust. This keeps temps. lower but results in less efficiency and less power.By utilysing (sp)DEF injection we can allow the engine to run more efficiently ie allow it to run at higher combustion temps and produce higher levels of NOx but so what...it will be destroyed with DEF injection. With deleted DEF injection, the ECM might try to compensate by cranking up the EGR rate to the max. amount resulting in clogged/sooted EGR valves. I recall hearing about something like this on earlier VW TDI's without DEF. Hope this makes sense,I've had a few.

You should look up for an SCR works waps... The SCR has ZERO impact on how the vehicle runs.

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

Well I drained my DEF tonight and put in MOPAR 2.5 gallons back in. Checking the DEF gauge it shows a little over half of a tank. I am thinking 2.5 gallons should show a little over 1/4 of a tank? The gauge level did seem to drop some after driving around the loop some.

Does it take a little time for the gauge to recalibrate to the new level?

Yes. It's a sonic sensor

Re: How to delete DEF injection with no software/hardware

For those that have gotten the low DEF warning stating engine will not restart in 500 miles, what was the level showing on your DEF gauge? I got the message on Friday night but my DEF gauge has been frozen around 20% for quite some time. I'm wondering if I should bring to the dealer before I add fluid on my own, this would be my first time having to add new DEF.
