Anybody else starting to lose faith in the fact that they actually know how to fix this? Just for curiosity sake I looked up lemon law here in Ohio and if the part really does take weeks to get here, and it still isn't fixed, then I have a good case for a refund or new replacement. Food for thought....

This emissions system SUCKS! Why do they have to prohibit the vehicle from starting after 200 miles!?!?!?

If he's referring to the DEF injector on the underside of the car, that is a known design flaw. The harness hangs down from the frame and is an easy target for damage from things on the road or a trail or even a deep puddle of water at speed. They're probably on back order because they keep breaking. But unless you remember driving over or through something that torqued the injector harness, I find it hard to believe that that's your problem. Sounds like these idiots are flailing. Were you able to confirm that they performed the software update before all these heroics, or are they just trying to justify tearing your car apart and are scared to admit that this might have been fixed with a half-hour programming tweak?

Thank your federal government and environmental zealots for that.

I am 46 days into my DEF issue and they haven't even addressed the original issue yet. They broke the brake booster performing a recall repair and just got the new part yesterday.

I am already within my rights to apply the lemon law....

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I'm now in the same boat as you guys. Was putting off replenishing DEF until I got warned about being low. A couple of days ago I go to a very busy truck stop and put 3 gallons of DEF in. Yesterday I get the incorrect DEF warning. I'm on the fence about what to do. I'm at about 40% full. Ideally, I go to the dealer and get Chrysler brand DEF and hopefully get about 5 gallons in the tank and get within spec. Either way, I'm stopping there at noon today to discuss. I'll let you know how it goes.

Are you sure it's a regulatory requirement and not another last-minute Chrysler shortcut? Modern cars have tons of emission control gear that just throws a check-engine when it fails instead of leaving you stranded.

It's actually both. The EPA has released a set of regulations that require manufacturers to implement a system that will use "persuasive measures to induce users to replenish the reducing agent" which should work beyond the regular warning. They suggest the manufacturers use either a "No-Engine Restart after Restart Countdown" method or a limp mode method. They leave the details to be worked out between each manufacturer and the agency.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Update: After a marathon 48 days in the shop, parts arrived and my broken brake booster was repaired so the vehicle could be driven and test performed to solve the original SCR/DEF issue.

I dont have the diagnostic and troubleshooting details but the service writer that called me said the tech replaced the DEF pump and reset all codes and its ready for pick up. I will pick it up tomorrow on my return home from a training class and drive the remaining 60 miles home. Saturday I'll drive 120 miles round trip to return their 3rd row seat for the mini-van. That should give it 180 miles to act up again if its not fixed.

Too bad it was out of commission so long, but hopefully the problem is solved. Keep us posted!

Congrats! I was getting worried you might get fed-up, kick in a lemon and never look back.

I'm no where near that point. Besides, what vehicle would I get that even comes close in features and value? I still have to put my DEF injector skid plate on...I was among the first to receive mine and had nothing to bolt it to...

Glad to hear you are getting it back!

I agree with you on this vehicles cost/value, even with this issue I find myself yearning to just get back to my vehicle. This minivan I have feels so slow in the city without the 420 ft-lbs…

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Not sure how many times I've had mine in the shop for the P20EE code. Now I have the infamous 'Engine will not restart in blah, blah'!!! mesage. They have had an EGR valve on order for 2 months for the original P20EE service visit. They replaced the DEF pump, however, the code returned in ~50mi. Like most others, I love the vehicle; it runs fine, rides nice, has many nice features - but Chrysler really needs to get a handle on these DEF issues. Oh, and it is in the shop as I write this!

The P20EE fault code is specifically mentioned in TSB 18-018-14 Rev. C/RRT-028 released last month as probably erroneous and correctable by a software update.

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1801814c.pdf

I hope your dealer tried the update first. Otherwise, they may have torn your Jeep apart for nothing. Mine started throwing a fault code relating to the DEF system early last month. First thing I did was give them the RRT when I came in for service. No problems since. And I added Peak BlueDef since the update. Still no problems.
