I disagree. a knowledgeable dealer will do proper diagnosis as was demonstrated by JustinB60's dealer work. DEF is very easy to test for freshness. The dealer should use a refractometer to test for concentration (which should be available for a dealer with a diesel service certification). If the results indicate at least 32.5% then the dealer should move on to other diagnostic procedures that ARE covered by warranty (flow rate testing, sensor testing etc...). Blindly flushing possibly good DEF and charging the customer is just bad service. JustinB60 did us great service by posting his STAR case and service notes. Anyone with DEF issues should print this and take it to their dealer for proper followup.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

...but here in the real world of mostly under trained and ill equipped service departments, having a DEF issue fixed in a single visit even if you pay, it's a bargain. Multiple trips and weeks in the shop is the norm.

I do agree with you though. We shouldn't pay and Jeep (and in their absence, owners) should make sure techs are aware of proper diagnostic methods.

I was told that the DEF liquid became water and I thought I had left the jeep in the sun for several months at work, I think that was the problem the liquid boiled or something like that, but I think the warranty is supposed to cover something, but i needed my jeep so bad sou i paid and left the dealer.

Update:

Just got it back. Test driving now. Cat was replaced and DEF system drained and tank and lines rinsed.

I hope that fixes it. After my last P200EE code I got code U02A5. Think I may need to make an appointment at the dealer. I've cleared both and the Jeep is running normal.

What does U02A5 represent? I can't find any info on it?

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

U02A5 is a "Generic Network Code". These codes are not normally associated with Powetrain or Emmisions issues. They indicate trouble with intercommunucations between modules on the ODB2 bus. The GC has many modules. There are even Left and Right Door modules! Eroneous codes arent uncommon.

I doubt it is related to the P20EE code.

Apparently replacing the catalytic converter is the fix for many I've seen. I don't know of anyone who has found bad DEF with a refractometer yet.

My GC is still in the shop - 23 days now and ~10th time. They have not replaced the CAT yet and they claim that factory engineering is now involved. I am getting ready to initiate protection under the 'lemon law'. Hopefully replacing the CAT is a permanent fix for you.

Anyone know if other manufactures are having issues with DEF systems???

Google it... Everything from BMW to Duramax's to Cummins. Damned Treehuggers in the EPA have ruined the diesel in America, They don't want "dino-based" fuel efficient cars, they all want us is shitbox electric Leafs or Tesla's if you're a 1%er.

You remove any of these POS emission systems from any of these vehicles and you gain 10-15% MPG (and some power) easy and you have a twice as reliable vehicle that should last you 300k miles.

Other companies don't have issues until well later... like 100k
