I had my catalytic converter replaced at 10,000 miles. Took two weeks to get the part. A nuisance for sure, but not unexpected when on the bleeding edge. It was covered under warranty, the dealer provided a free loaner, and it cost me zero $.

If you have constructive and helpful comments, even if negative, they are welcome. If the main reason people are on this forum is to trash the product using four letter words, you are encouraged to find another forum.

It's a product that SHOULD NOT have been released. There is no if, ands, or buts about it. And sorry I expect a lot more from a vehicle that costs 50k.

I mean, I expect it to not spend weeks at a time at the dealership just to have it returned to me not fixed. It is mind blowing how people are okay with this. I didn't pay 50k to drive a base model 200, or a stupid mini van...

I have 10.5k on mine (March 2014 4x4 Limited OR2 / Lux) and the only issue I've had that I was dissatisfied with was a broken DEF injector of which I'm going to get the panel (was hoping Chrysler would actually put a real skid plate to address the issue - especially those of us with off road packages). Otherwise I've been quite happy with the ecodiesel - including getting 27-28 mpg combined and 30+ when driving mostly highway and 18 mpg towing an enclosed trailer (this is all in western NJ / NYC metro area that is quite mountainous).

Vtail, How did you get a lifetime warranty? I am in the process of negotiating a free warranty for my trouble.

I would talk to Owner of the dealership and NO ONE else, unless someone like service mgr or sales mgr may have helped you could also request to have them included in the meeting first.

If he does not know who you are tell him pull your service record.

Have a calm discussion let him/them know that you like/love the vehicle in spite of all you have been threw and hope they have all the bugs out for now.

But you want to protect your self " For the life time you own the vehicle" warranty that you think you should be entitled to for free for enduring all of your problems. Also tell them you want the WARRANTY IN WRITING witnessed and notarized .

This has worked for me once before, I got a "free life time I own the vehicle warranty" because of bad paint on a vehicle, in the end. I ended up hiring attorney for vehicle replacement this just after lemon laws came to SC early 90's. This was before "car fax"(not that they are any good ) but I thought about when I go to trade the vehicle they would say the car was wrecked because of repaint and I would loose resale value.

If he starts to wringing his hands and starts mumbling, tell him you know he will have to contact Jeep for approval and you will give him a few days to a week.

Let him know you appreciate him and the people at his dealership you have dealt with and helped to resolve your issues

Let him know if this is not approved, then you are willing to take it to the next step which would be dealer buy back, mfg buy back, lemon laws,or complete refund and different MFG if they insist on pushing it that far, plus time for all your trouble and inconvenience.

I hope they got all your gremlins out and smoooth driving in the future.

Please let us know your out come.

Good luck

I take it you haven't talked to Jeeps resolution center? Biggest group of unhelpful people on the planet. I have had several LONG conversations with them, all they want to do is have you bring it back to the dealer. They burnt over a half tank of diesel the last time it was in the shop, I asked to be compensated for it, the pretty much laughed in my face.

If they didn't give me such a crap rental car I prolly wouldn't be as pissed off. But the fact of the matter is I didn't pay 50k for a base model 200 or a base model caravan (when they actually had a rental car available).... they should be putting you in a "like" vehicle. The other luxury companies do this, Jeep should take note.

2009RavenR1

Why did you not change dealers if you were not happy with the one doing the work, rental, attitude or whatever?

It is not just JEEP's resolution center!!!

Its any product you buy over $100.00 with a warranty and or extended warranty, the practice has become DENY DENY DENY DENY and they hope you will get tired of their run around and go away! Then they win!!

This has become standard practice, its sad really, we have become a disposable society and our shores are flooded with substandard products, from CHINA and some being made here in the USA.

It has to do with the advances in technology, the engineers now have available to them software cad/cam that allows them to be able to determine end of life(how long a product will last) for a product before a prototype is ever built.

By the way cars are now being designed to last 7 yrs now a days, long enough for you to make your last payment since vehicles have gotten so expensive that they must be now financed 5-7 yrs for most people who choose to enjoy nice high end vehicles.

Remember when a washer, dryer, fridge would last 20 years, not any more!

And yes I have had my TRYING TIMES(arguments) with with auto MFG"S.

My score board is as follows.

1)One and only GM bad paint (metal shavings over entire car rusting, 2weeks after purchase)

Result after driving car for 3 years during dispute for total cost of $259.00 63,000 miles I got all my money back in cash, plus.

2) I went back to Dodge, I was buying 5-6 cars every 3-4 yrs for my business at fleet prices. Trouble with 4 (1999) intrepids (First year model change problems). Dealer refused to help, area factory rep useless, dodge useless!!!

Result sold all 4 cars the highest mileage of the 4 was 9,000. and switched MFG'S Never another dodge!!

3) 2012 Ram 2500 6.7 cummins 4x4 crew, laramie beautiful truck last year before DEF in the shop 38 days because of "EPA CRAP" first 14 months of ownership. Have good local dealer that actually took my side and tried to help get gremlins out of the vehicle.
Ram tied my dealers hands with limited help.

Result my dealer got me out of the RAM and into the Jeep with basically an even swap with the equity I had in the Ram.

End of life is a term used for support purposes. The term you are referring to is "Planned obsolescence". This is a process coined in the early 20's where technology is engineered with a predefined failure rate. There are actually some positive points to it to desaturate the market. Making products survive a very long time causes market saturation. Possible outcomes can be whole industries laying off workers by the thousands as nobody buys new products.

It is through a 3rd party and I purchased it through the dealer. It must be purchased through a dealer. It was about $2,000. Basically the same as the Chrysler extended warranty, but for as long as you own the car. If you sell the car, they will return a prorated portion based on 8 years.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Mine was in the shop today after a month wait for a catalytic converter (still drivable with MIL on). In the process of replacing it...they broke the O2 sensor (I believe) so now it is stuck in the shop until they are able to locate that part.
