We've been a Toyota and Dodge/Ram family for life (I'm 43 y/o) and have literally only had 2 vehicles into a shop for a repair, (admittedly bought new vehicles more often than most but did trade my paid for 2007 Tundra 135k miles for this JGC), and we love the vehicle so far.

I am literally scared about the future durability/longevity of this engine/vehicle based on the entirety of the posts on this forum, we only have 1800 miles and so far no issues .

I know vehicles have issues, but can someone please tell me that there are Jeep GC's out there trouble free, with a positive chance to be so for years?

This is supposed to be one of those proud husband moments where I took care of the wife with a major purchase, but I'm more nervous now about this vehicle than at any point in my life. I hope I'm overreacting due to the amount of money spent and someone here can talk me off the cliff. Thanks for any positive comments.

Rick
Hi Rick - I love your post - you may be my double! I've been a happy Toyota owner for the past 15 years but no longer need my 2000 Tundra (145,000 mi) and the 2005 Highlander (155,000 mi) is no longer very comfortable for long trips to see the kids and grandkids. New car choice came down to a new Highlander or the Jeep GC. Both cars have strong points, but the Ecodiesel economy and the front passenger seat comfort were the deciding factors. It's surprising how few cars, except for very expensive luxury cars, have a front passenger seat with all the bells and whistles that the driver has and the Jeep GC is one of the few. The other main selling point for me is the superior infotainment system in the Jeep - I'm a junkie for good onboard navigation (as an old retired pilot) and intuitive and easy to use controls. Every critic I've read rates Chrysler's infotainment package the best in the industry.

So yes - this car is a joint decision and if it turns out to not be as good as we thought it would be, there's going to be a serious problem!!!
I'm glad to see some follow up to your post saying that most owners are happy campers with no problems.

Curious - did you purchase an extended warranty?

PlayGolf, our JGC Limited Diesel has 16,000 miles on it, about 4500 towing a 4000 lb TT, and has been trouble-free, except for a false CEL that has been discussed on other posts, which the dealer cleared up with an update. We are just finishing up a 4000 mile driving trip though the Midwest and Allegheny Mountains (no trailer), and the car is an absolute dream to drive. We are averaging 32 mpg even through the mountains.

Thanks Emersonjeep - nice to hear. From what I've read I wonder if part of your success (32 mpg) comes from doing some towing and giving the engine some good exercise. The owner's manual stresses the importance of driving at varying speeds and loads to give the engine a proper break-in. Of course that's pretty standard advice.

Sounds like a beautiful drive you had at a good time of year for fall foliage. We did something similar last year driving back east for a reunion. Most of my driving will be from home base in central CA to see family in Arizona and Oregon. We also enjoy an occasional trip exploring old dirt roads all over the west - so the capabilities of the Jeep may be very handy. I'm really looking forward to the JGC!

The Uconnect & Nav are one of the best operating and logical systems out there. On the flip side Subaru's nav is one of the worst to use and operate.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I deserve congratulations as I just joined the P20EE club. Got the usual 'ping' and CEL during my highway commute. 13K miles on the odometer. Active DTC shows P20EE. Currently I do not have any limiting issues or any additional messages, but based on members experience my CAT is probably working marginally and things will go down-hill from here. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. On another forum a member with a similar issue mentioned that his dealer told him that Chrysler is actually working on a redesigned CAT that will be available within 6 weeks. Did anyone hear anything about that?

Welcome to the club. I was ridiculed for stating that there is an ongoing issue with our cats...well it sure seems like there is a problem. I also read the same thing about the dealer stating that a redesigned cat is in the works. Mine has been replaced so we'll see how long it lasts. I would imagine it is flawed as well.

For my P20EE, the dealer has ordered a DEF injector. It probably will take a while to get one and probably will not fix the problem. I will see them on Monday to see what is going on.....

EDIT: By the way, my mileage is at 8K.

They will swap parts until it is fixed. My cat came in third round and fixed it. DEF pump and injector plus a DEF tank clean out happened first...with no improvement.

My concern also. Had my CAT replaced at 10k, so far so good. But if it is the same design as the one that failed, no reason to think it might not fail again. I do hope they are addressing the issue from a design/engineering perspective. I do love my SFU, but am glad I bought the lifetime warranty through a 3rd party.....

ps. How do you know you have the P20EE code? Did the dealer tell you or do you have the device to plug into the vehicle to tell you that? Mine just popped up on the EVIC and said "engine won't start in 200 miles, take vehicle to dealer".

I have a Scanguage2 as well as a Bluetooth ODB2 adapter with Torque app. Both will read codes.

Make sure you take a close look at your extended service plan terms. Most exclusionary plans (I know the Mopar MaximumCare does) are excluding any exhaust system parts and specifically the emissions related ones as those are supposed to be covered by the Federal Emission Warranty and Federal Emission Performance Warranty. The problem is that those government issued warranties are very vague and were written years ago so they are not well aligned with our expensive, complex, and very diesel specific exhaust system. There are already a few cases on Internet forums where owners are having trouble getting those parts claimed beyond the OEM warranty. The vagueness of terms in the Federal regulations allows the carriers and manufacturers to deny claims. This is going to be a bumpy ride and I sure hope that by the end of our 3/36 the CAT/DEF longevity will be established.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Argh... wish I had seen this prior to buying a 2.5 gallon box of Peak Blue DEF from Wally world and pouring it in my DEF tank. First DEF I have added as I only have about 8900 miles on the SFU so far.

On the ride to work this morning got a "Incorrect DEF see dealer" message. What is the "correct" resolution at this point?

1. Take it to dealer and hope I get back in a few weeks.
2. Buy some of the MOPAR DEF from the dealer, pour it in and hope the warning clears and if it does then thank my stars and sacrifice a bag of skittles under the next rainbow I see.
3. Other?
