This is a multi-part question:

Has anyone experienced the problems described on this thread while using only Mopar DEF, or do problems occur only when other DEF is introduced?

Had anyone ever gotten bad DEF from a Mopar dealer? Bad includes "old" or out of date?

Has any thread discussed a brand/model of the OBDII code reader that seems to be a good value - not too expensive, not too simple, does the things you need for our vehicles without adding too many extraneous features?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and comments. It's good to have a technical resource readily available for what appears to be a great vehicle that also happens to be a sophisticated one. Lord knows I'm not the shade tree mechanic that some of you appear to be!

A few posts back, Dom says that his incorrect DEF message occurred after having the dealer add DEF. I suppose they added MOPAR DEF. There is no telling how they handle their DEF. Apparently, it was not good.

I buy Peak BlueDEF from an air conditioned store and make sure the manufacturing date is recent. I keep it in a refrigerator at home. I only add a gallon at a time when it is below 25%.

The ELM327 OBDII bluetooth device is what I use. Under $16 on Amazon.
And then the Torque App on a small tablet. I used my phone for a while but decided it was a good idea to have a larger screen and something always in the vehicle that had the softcopy manuals, TSBs, etc. I also got a windshield mount for the tablet so I can easily see the realtime information while driving.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Dealer called and said DEF was bad... they flushed and added new and supposedly all is good now. Getting good DEF should NOT be this difficult.

I see at least one serious flaw with this EPA setup here.

If I were you I'd call Chrysler and ask them to do this. It would be interesting to see the response.

I just called my dealership and told them about all this info on Jeep Garage. Of course the salesman was completely clueless. I told him that I will not accept my Grand Cherokee when/if it gets built unless I have some solid evidence that Chrysler has solved the various transmission and diesel issues. He told me he has many happy diesel owners and I shouldn't believe the malcontents on forums. I should also not expect to buy a new car without maintenance issues. (By the way, even tho my car is still in "pre-release" status, the dealership cannot cancel the order. Right.......)

Of course I expected this answer. I still have at least 6-8 weeks to get some feedback from you guys and Chrysler that the car is worth buying.

Don't get me wrong at least... I freaking LOVE my diesel jeep.

The transmission issue I had was fixed first time at the dealer by a "retraining" and the DEF issue is one of quality control of an evidently finicky fluid combined with an evidently finicky system. I'm guessing that this will get worked out over time.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Finally getting a replacement catalytic converter. Hopefully this will be the end of my dealer visits for awhile. I did send Chrysler a certified lemon law letter and heard absolutely nothing back.

Really do love the vehicle and hope this resolves my P20EE code issue.

Texas Auto Writers Association has given 9 of 25 awards to Chrysler - mostly for the Jeep??? Guess they don't own a diesel!!!

Wish Chrysler would at least extend Uconnect Access and SiriusXM to make up for the time I have been without the vehicle which is ~45 days.

Just got word today that my dealer will be replacing the dpf but not the doc for the p20ee code. This is what Chrysler told them to do. I'm still trying to get details on why it's being replaced. Dpf's just don't go bad in 12k miles, something upstream or calibration wise has to be the issue here.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

It's interesting that no one specific part seems to be the answer. Most do seem to need multiple parts (DEF pump & injector, some a cad. Converter)

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Dealer tested the Peak Blue DEF I had purchased from wally world and put in the tank and said it was no good. They flushed the tank and refilled with MOPAR DEF, cleared the code, and voila. Picked her up last night and she's behaving nicely now.

I picked up a 4 gallon box of MOPAR def ($40!!!) and am storing inside the house in the air conditioning.
