I love tools. However, are you certain that this would prove that you have "uncontaminated" DEF? It appears that it just measures urea concentration rather than registering the absence of adulterants or "crap".

Maybe the best course of action is to drain the DEF tank and refill the tank 40% full of freshly acquired DEF before taking the vehicle into the dealer for these problems.

I will be ordering the extended warranty soon.....
I just got the news I need a new cat converter with only 11k miles and tons of trips to the dealership already. So frustrating, I'm gonna a put a few gallons of fresh def fluid and see if that works.. Let me know how you make out with the new cat converter please..

Incorrect DEF - See dealer

It will be interesting to see for those of us who got new cat converters around the 10,000 mile mark if these will last or have to be replaced again in the same time frame. With the numbers being replaced under warranty you'd think they would make some design changes.

It is frustrating to see gas prices drop by a dollar or more and diesel prices remain virtually unchanged. I still love my SFU though...

My background is chemical engineering and mainly dealing with the sales of instrumentation such as ammonia slip analyzers, emission monitoring systems and combustion monitors etc...

Typically in SCR systems you need to control the injection of the UREA to prevent catalyst from prematurely deteriorating (also pre-heaters from plugging) and ammonia bisulfates (crystals that you are seeing) from forming. Any ideas on how injection of Urea is controlled?

Still coming up to speed on all of these issues....

I have an extensive Automation Engineering background. We don't have any documentation except some troubleshooting procedures. From what I understand, the SCR system is controlled in the ECU as a closed loop where the NOx sensor in the Catalytic Converter is the process variable (feedback). I don't know if the injector is PWM but suspect it is.

Same exact thing is happening to me. Not sure what's going to happen but not good.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Just got my SFU back today from the dealer. I had been getting the CEL for the better part of 2 months. The P20EE code they got was SCR Catalyst Failure. What was supposed to take less than a day actually took about a week since they had to bring parts in. They tested and replaced the SCR catalyst, the NOx sensor and the diesel exhaust temp sensor. The sensors were seized in the SCR catalyst, and the inlet exhaust bolts from SCR catalyst to the Catalytic converter were seized and had to be torched in order to be removed. The temp sensor wiring harness protective sleeve was also torn.
Parts needed;
Catalytic Converter - 68243268-AB
Gasket Exhaust - 68160679-AB
Sensor Exhaust - 68166852-AD
Temp Sensor - 5146663-AC

Hopefully this is the last I see of the CEL for a while. I will post anything else I find after the fact.

Is that what that smell is? I thought it was anti-freeze, but it happens so infrequently.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I think the def system is clogged up and therefore fumes are coming back in. Not to mention today the AC recycle feature to the immediate right of the AC button was blinking today and stopped working.

I'm one of the lucky ones - not had a single problem or failure since ownership started in July. Just turned 15k for mileage and still going great. i'll just have to pay closer attention - mine does seem to be eating DEF in decent amounts - roughly 1 gallon ever 900 to 1100 miles.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I only recall getting diesel fumes once in the cabin but not DEF specifically.
