Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Check engine came on this morning on my way to office and so I pulled the code when I got home...good 'ol P20EE.

Granted I got the same code in mid-Aug and they were able to do a forced regen to clear...but I'm curious if my luck is going to run out considering all the issues people are having. I did notice that the P20EE code is listed in my OBDii as "permanent" ?

I guess I'll be calling the dealer to take it back in.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I've had mine in 3 times in the last 2 weeks. After it sat at their shop the entire month of sept. Got the "will not start" count down. Drove it until past zero, (no limp mode), pulled into dealer Sunday. Shut it off, restarted, shut it off again and it restarted. So I drove it home. Went to start it today and nothing. Stopped by the dealer this morning, they said they would pick it up and start the arbitration process with Chrysler. I'm disappointed as I like the power and mpg. But this has been in the shop more than my 7 year old Honda which had. 175k miles and counting.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I had the light come on and the code but no shut down or DEF messages. It's gone now and has been for 1100 miles or so. I have noticed more DEF consumption than others experience on here but I just contributed it to higher average highway speeds here vs. up north.

The sensors were seized in the SCR catalyst, and the inlet exhaust bolts from SCR catalyst to the Catalytic converter were seized and had to be torched in order to be removed. The temp sensor wiring harness protective sleeve was also torn.
Parts needed;
Catalytic Converter - 68243268-AB
Gasket Exhaust - 68160679-AB
Sensor Exhaust - 68166852-AD
Temp Sensor - 5146663-AC

Hopefully this is the last I see of the CEL for a while. I will post anything else I find after the fact.
I hope this scenario isn't the norm when getting the SCR catalyst replaced. I was scheduled to get mine replaced tomorrow, but to be safe, I'm going to wait till after the holidays just in case.

I guess I'll be waiting to see if it comes back on. I am sure if I take it in they'll tell me nothing is wrong.

Some of these emissions codes are "permanent" insofar as you can clear them and disable the MIL, but they stay on the record until you have driven some predetermined amount.

It's a tattletale for emissions inspectors.

You cleared it, the code wasn't immediately pending, and after you drove it for a while it erased. Had the same thing happen with one of my DEF codes that I cleared a few months back. Hasn't recurred.

What is funny is I cleared it. Didn't drive it, so it sat overnight. When I got in this morning, it was "gone".

It is frustrating to see gas prices drop by a dollar or more and diesel prices remain virtually unchanged. I still love my SFU though...

I'm glad to see you're still loyal to the vehicle, especially after all you've been through. I truly believe that my lack of problems has to do with my mix of highway vs city driving. Since I moved back to Tampa from Miami, my driving has been 90 percent highway, and I have not seen the exhaust regen message in months. Oil life has been greatly improved, as has DEF consumption. And my AVERAGE MPG has been about 27.5. I love this vehicle!

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Just spoke to my dealer, pass this along for your info. If you are thinking of having Chrysler do a bit back, DO NOT agree to the MAXcare insurance offer. My dealer told me it "restarts" Chryslers "clock". I believe a good attorney could chew that up though as there is no written agreement I signed nor was I ever told there where "conditions" associated to accepting the MAXcare. No matter, at the rates it's going it will be just matter of a week before it codes again (that after the several weeks they will have it at the dealer)

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

These new diesel just need to get driven. They don't do good with constant short trips.

Eh - I'll disagree to some extent. I have a short commute (9 miles each way) not on highways. I also use it a ton for short trips around town, especially during the week. Weekends it gets the longer trips and more mileage, as well as some road trips out of town. And all things consider when looking at some peoples issues, mine has done pretty well so far. :knockonwood:
