How's that minivan?
I'm loving my loaner minivan. For the first time in years, I am parking in the closest available spots and not swerving to avoid potholes or slowing down for rough patches and railroad tracks. Heck, I think I got all 4 wheels off the ground yesterday.

Uh oh! Those are hard habits to break! Better be careful when you get your baby back.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

I had this P020-EE code and a P0420 code. They replaced the SCR catalyst and the rear particulate sensor. Might have seen an incorrect DEF message at one point but just had the check engine light, no other messages.

So either these SCR's are deffective or something isn't programmed right causing them to go bad?

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

So my MIL came on this past weekend. Took it in today.

Code P2459

Per their notes: "Pending DTC for P2459 diesel pariculate filter regeneration frequency"

"inspect the vehicle for any signs of restriction in the intake and exhaust system and none found....performed a stationary regen and clear DTC..."

The MIL light is now off - but not sure what exactly they did, nor do I get the warm and fuzzies from anyone in this department.

Anyone else seen that code?

I Just got my jeep back from the dealer. When I scheduled an appointment for service it had code P20EE set and the MIL lit, Then the MIL went out and a scan showed P20EE set and a pending for P2459. I kept driving and before my appointment I got an incorrect DEF error and MIL and two set codes. I did not save those codes but the dealer pulled codes P20EE and P2BA9. I don't know what happened to P2459, maybe it was bogus. It seems P2459 changed to P2BA9.

The dealer checked a number of things but according to the paperwork the problem was a build up of crystals on the DEF doser injector and in the catalyst inlet port.

Put about 60 miles on after getting it back, so far no issues. But I hope this is not going to be a recurring problem.

That is the nearly the exact sequence of errors I got with mine. It has been in the shop for 40 days due to them breaking the brake master cylinder while performing the recall procedure. MC is on backorder. I'm supposed to get it back this week.

I'm going to pass along your diagnoses to the mechanic in case mine has the same problem.

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Similar sequence for me. My dealer drained the DEF, inspected the system, forced a REGEN but couldn't clear the P20EE. Finally replaced the catalytic converter and it cleared. I've driven about 800 miles since without incident.

Well I guess I feel sort of lucky, for now, in comparison.

Did they say anything about heat and keeping the DEF fresh? My theory is that this is what happens in the summer as DEF is in temperatures over 90F. The heat damages the DEF (ammonia evaporates out of the DEF creating the crystals). My plan is to keep the DEF level low in the vehicle, keep spare DEF in a refrigerator to keep it good, and occasionally add some to the vehicle throughout the summer.

Thanks for sharing this as we know what to look for.

This is the same theory I've been thinking of why some are having these major issues. I think it's from hot climates with ambient temps > 90 degrees and the DEF perishes too quickly reducing the reactant that might be damaging other parts of the system (anyone know what DEF degrades into if it expires too quickly)?

My idea is to never fill the DEF tank > 50% and only when it hits 1/4 tank do I add a fresh new 2 1/2 gallon jug so it stays fresher in the tank. I also only use Mopar fluid - I can get it for wholesale price at the dealer if you show them that you can buy it much cheaper (maybe my dealer is just really nice to me).

Re: Incorrect DEF - See dealer

Survey: Who has had DEF issues and what was the average high daytime temp, DEF level at time of CEL, and Time since last refill and refill level. Let's compile some data. Re-quote and add your info:

ExcursionDiesel
93°F in Florida
DEF at 50% @CEL
2.5 months since refill to 100%

LabRatICMP3
HOT in Phoenix
DEF at 33% @CEL
2.5 months since refill to 100%

They did not mention any reason for the crystal build up in the paperwork but I only could talk to the service consultant. But from reading into to the troubleshooting steps they took I think Chrysler is getting a handle on these issues.

My last DEF fill up was in the beginning of June at a Loves truck stop. I have about 1/3 of a tank left. I drive around the Phoenix area which as you may know is hot in the summer.

I also tow frequently which is way I bought the diesel in the first place.

I also am thinking about only putting in 2 - 2 1/2 gallons at a time to keep the DEF fresh. Might just buy in containers in the future as I don't go by truck stops very often.
