Ineptitude at its highest degree

It's the end of May. The day before a 1,000 mile week-long road trip over Memorial Day week, on comes the MIL. I log into the forum and get this feeling of foreboding, girding myself for at least a couple of trips to the local dealer. I had a friend check the code - P20EE - and he says it's okay to drive on my trip. I call the dealer on 6/1 after I get back and they give me an appointment for almost a month later, on 6/25.

I take the Jeep in on 6/25, they reprogram the PCM and send me on my way, saying that I should be all set. A week later the light comes back. I call back on 7/2 and they set me up for another appointment four weeks later, on 7/30.

Jeep Enhanced calls me, seeing I have been having issues. I express my displeasure about the length of time it takes to get an appointment, and they offer me an extended warranty 5 yrs/100k miles. I accept.

On 7/30 the dealer finds a leaking gasket, claiming that it could be causing the MIL. I explain that they're probably going to have to replace the converter, but they just laugh. "Never seen any issues with the converters." The gasket has to be ordered, due in on 8/4, but the service advisor says they're now booking into September - they're getting hammered by recalls.

Jeep Enhanced calls me, I say I am very displeased that it will take over three months to get the MIL issue resolved. They promise to call the dealer to get me in sooner than Sept. The next day the dealer calls, says the gasket's in, and asks if I can bring the Jeep in the next day. Of course I can.

Drop off the Jeep at 8am on the 5th, for what the advisor says is a two hour job. I call at noon so see how it's going and he says "not so good". The tech broke off three bolts inside the converter when removing it to get to the gasket. Converters are on national back order. ETA for the part is 8/24.

The advisor offers a rental car - he had to call all over to find a Chrysler product - and sets up a Charger at Hertz. I had to go pick it up, which was no biggie since it's within walking distance of my house. I show up at Hertz. "We don't have any Chargers. In fact we don't have any Chrysler products at all. How about a Nissan Rogue?" Whatever. Advisor calls me the next morning to check on my Charger. I told him I was surprised to learn that Chrysler was now building Nissans. He wasn't amused.

So Jeep Enhanced expedites the converter, finding one at another dealer for delivery on the 19th. I stop by the dealer on the 20th to see when my vehicle would be ready, and he says they shipped the wrong part. They got an elbow, not a converter. He suggests I call Jeep Enhanced to see what's going on, and why they ordered the wrong part, which I do. Jeep Enhanced claims they expedited the part using the PN that the dealer gave them. They're pointing fingers at each other. Of course the converter is still on back order. ETA is now Thursday 8/27. I am not holding my breath.

Jeep Enhanced is calling me with more free offers later this week. I just want the damn Jeep back. What additional benefits should I hold out for? I saw 7 years no deductible was had by someone. Any other suggestions?

Ask if you can keep the Nissan Rogue.

Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

I got 7 yr/100k zero deductible Premium care and 6 oil changes within 3 yr after my buyback. There are different warranties out there and they will try to give you basic which does not cover very much. I still wish to this day I would have just gotten my money back and moved on from Chrysler. Make sure you get full names and phone number or extensions from anyone who makes you a promise. These people WILL all disappear once you get you vehicle back and no one will know who or how to get a hold of them. I played this game for months and it SUCKED!!

Angry Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

If I had the patience to type out my entire story without wanting to pound my keyboard into dust, I would. However, I will just agree that Chrysler Customer Care is literally, the worst. I mean, talking to Comcast Customer Service is a pleasure compared to this. I would prefer getting a colonoscopy than deal with these incompetent buffoons. Normally, I would just blame this on the call takers being at some outsourced international call center, except that these people sound like Americans. It is so bad that if I ever get this buyback approved, I will take my money and RUN as fast as I can. I might be able to deal with first year vehicle design problems, slow dealership repairs, back ordered parts, untrained service technicians or idiot customer service reps, but not all of them together.

AMEN!!!! My nightmare started in January 2015. Buyback was done late June and just got my extended warranty refund 08/14/2015. Which I had to miss work so I could sign for the check. They would not send it to any other address than my home. More BS.
Calling and dealing with Comcast is a walk in the park!!

Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

Remember one thing most if not ALL dealership are not owned by the company but by businessman or businesswoman that call the shots.
Poor dealers really make for the above comments.
As a counterbalance the dealership I use, Lee Chrysler/ Dodge/ Jeep has taken care of me better than the BMW dealership has.
I had the cat issue. Came in on a Thursday afternoon because my MIL came on in another city and that dealer worked on an injector being dirty and sent me on my way for around 200 miles.
Lee on the other hand tells me they have seen a lot of cat issues and arrange for a rental car. They tell me that it is the cat and they will do their best to get it done Friday or Saturday. They told me they don't have a cat in stock but will get one.

Fast forward to Friday afternoon 4pm. Your ride is done cat is in come pick it up.
This is the kind of service I have received from these guys from day one.

So before you go pissing on all dealerships understand they are independent and the good ones do a terrific job and the bad one make life miserable for an owner.

I can't even comprehend waiting 3 weeks for the dealer to get your Jeep in. That is ridiculous. Even my BMW I can get in the dealership in a day or two. Something smells really bad with that particular dealer and service team if that is how long owners wait.

I would not trade my Jeep in for anything. I just drove 800 miles yesterday at around 80 mph and got a calculated 28.7 mpg. Nothing touches that for mpg and comfort being an SUV...

Amen to that. I love my Jeep, and when it's time for service again I will be using another dealership which is 10 miles farther away. Everyone I speak to has nothing but bad things to say about the dealer that prolonged this fiasco. I will try another. Fortunately I have a few options within a reasonable distance. But again, I love the vehicle, I love the 30 mpg I get on the highway and I love the 600 miles between fillups. In addition to the 5 year, 100k mile $100 deductible warranty they already gave me, Jeep is offering me a choice of three years road hazard for the tires and rims, or three years paintless dent removal. I will pick one and also demand an upgrade to the 7 year 100k mile zero deductible warranty that I see others have received. I'm just psyched to have my Jeep back for my vacation road trip to the beach! Look out Nauset, here we come!

Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

It's amazing how different dealers can be. I had the P20EE come up, took it in to the dealer and they confirmed. They cleared the code for me, ordered all the parts to get it fixed on the spot, a week a half later they had done the software updates, the CAT change and sensor change. No hassle, I didn't have to ask for the part to be ordered or go in multiple times.

Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

Can anyone tell me if this issue is with 2014's only. I have a 2015 build in December 2014 and delivered in February. Thanks
Mike

It would appear, from the outset - most of the problem posts stem from early build 2014 models. From my June build I have yet to see any of the problems associated. I have a friend that has a May 2014(not much on this forum) that had the P20EE code, so the problem could have a wider dispersal. Time will tell.

Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

The saga continues. I picked up the Jeep Thursday at 3 with a new converter installed. Drove to golf, then home. Got up, drove to work, went to lunch around noon. Driving down the interstate, the dreaded chime and there's he MIL. Stopped at Advance to have them read the code. Surprise! P20EE yet again.

I am done with this dealer. I have an appointment with another who is about 10 miles farther away. Hopefully they know how to fix my car for good without breaking it along the way like the first dealer. Supposedly they have a tech who has worked on quite a few eco diesels. I'll give the new shop a shot, and if they can't fix it I will pursue a buyout. Just a damn shame. I really love this vehicle. I just want it fixed once and for all. How hard can it be?

Re: Ineptitude at its highest degree

Just to make you feel like you aren't alone, yesterday after 18 days at the shop getting the cylinder heads replaced on my diesel, my service rep sends me this message on the day I'm supposed to pick it up:

"When we were taking it apart, a stud on the upper catalytic converter, where it mounts to the turbo, it had broken off. Before reinstalling it back on the motor, my tech went to replace the broken stud. While hammering the broken stud out, the whole flange on the catalytic converter broke off of the cat. I could probably take it home and weld it, but that wouldn't be the right thing to do. We've ordered a new one, but it's probably going to have to ship from another dealer because they are on backorder through Chrysler. I'll keep you posted on the ETA for the part. Hopefully early next week."

I want to scream. This is probably the same tech who put the wrong engine oil in this thing TWICE and guess what, now I have engine issues. I may call Chrysler and make them pay for a complete inspection of the car at another dealer at this point. Plus they only offered me a 5 year 70k mile warranty last time we talked. Seriously? You don't have any more confidence in your products than that? You expect me to drive my family around and feel safe in a Jeep who's engine has been completely taken apart and put back together by a dealership who can't even read and put the right engine oil in the vehicle?
