Originally, I was worried about service-related issues also, as I also have the 8/120 extended service contract. But I bought the Jeep to be a tow vehicle to replace my 2000 WJ, and really missed any kind of engine braking when traveling in the mountains.

Looking at the parameters of the tune, other than the reduced EGR frequency (which actually contributes to longer engine life - at least in theory), I don't see a lot of things FCA could claim that the tune contributed to any kind of covered failure. I guess they could always push that issue, but I would think in an arbitration case they would have to prove the tune caused the problem.

Nonetheless, if you buy a tune and go around screaming "Wheeeeeeeee!" while running at WOT all the time, you take your chances...

I don't see the point to getting the tune at all at that point. All of the damage is already done by 120,000. If I had to bet on a tuned Jeep or one that stayed stock for 120k miles, I'd bet every penny I own that the stock one would have more issues than the tuned one

For those of you that have the tune - do you regard the option of having the DPF regen message showing as being a worthy $50 investment? I think it to seem a paltry amount, but I've never been to concerned before, and have 61,650 miles on it w/o any problems. Have not placed my order for it yet, but I do plan on the engine braking and hi-idle options. Thank you for your replies.

I do. And it's a good indicator that the regen is happening if I don't have my OBD reader plugged in.

A lot of people are knocking on GDE's pricing, and I think it's a little unfair to call it "paltry." They are one of the few people in the market for the Ecodiesel. It's also people who have families and need to feed them too. It's not a hobby that they do on the weekend for shits and giggles, it's their job and income. Paltry is paying $900 for a tune from ppei and having to drop more money on reflashing it when the dealer overwrites it than GDE charges. GDE offers a $50 reflash for for something they should be charging the total amount over again. So I'd really peal the onion back a little next time.

When regen is in progress your IDLE rpm goes up 200rpm. also the cooler fan spins when shutting down if it was regenerating.

Works for me, but obviously no indication while driving otherwise.
