Re the Touareg vs. the JGC, my buddy has a Touareg and he is envious of my JGC. We haven't run them yet though.
I do believe that the Jeep is a more capable offroader than the later model year T-regs but as far as a road machine, it doesn't compare in my opinion.

I echo this statement. The diesel is fine as my daily driver, but I really like this car on the road. During my last trip from OK to MT, it was a joy to drive. If you can get past some of the diesel engine issues, this is the best engine of the group. IMHO

Another great thing is that you are ALWAYS using the power of the diesel because max torque is right around 2000rpm. So that means every time you pull away from a light, the motor is getting into its peak powerband.

With the gas 6 and 8, you have to rev it all the way up to get into the powerband. With the diesel, you lean into the go pedal and the power is already there. Being a big gearhead, I love to drive the car every day. The longer the trip, the better.
Not to mention the turbo - that bad boy makes ALL the difference. Don't think I can ever go back to a naturally aspirated vehicle again.

I can testify to the issues. I went through every single issue mentioned on this forum, was without the car for a month and a half, and I'm still ordering a diesel as my replacement because it's just that good when it works.

If you like to go fast on the highway, don't get it, if you want fuel economy and want to go fast off the line then it's perfect for you. Test drove a regular Hemi and was not impressed, EcoDiesel or SRT are the only choice imo

Re: Is the Ecodiesel fun to drive?

Is it fair to say even if you drive the diesel hard off the line it will use much less fuel than a hemi with the same driving habits? They're pretty close in the 0-30mph head to head?

Hard off the line probably won't save you any fuel, you will make up for it when your not gunning it.

In my opinion it is more of the practical man's performance vehicle... it is quick and has lots of torque off the line, but sensible on fuel and a joy to drive on the road where it really shines both in MPG and crusing....

Re: Is the Ecodiesel fun to drive?

"fun" is a matter of opinion and fully subjective. Sans the cat issues and piss poor service departments, I do enjoy my CRD. Is it as fun as my modified G35 on the highway or on curvy roads? Nope. But I didn't buy it for that (I needed a dog hauling SUV).

But is it fun when I took a roadtrip to Arkansas and took it offroading? Yep! It was an awesome truck to take through the national parks in Arkansas, through all the winding long roads. To be able to pull off anywhere and stop and get out and roam around was awesome. It's a great road tripping vehicle, and I wish I had more time for that.

At the end of the day it's all about what you decide is fun for you. As my DD for my 1.5m commute, it's not "fun" but going to and from work usually isn't the highlight of my week.

Re: Is the Ecodiesel fun to drive?

JTS: What you explain you want out of the JGC is not what the diesel is for.
From your performance car mentality you should go with the 5.7L Hemi or the SRT with the 6.4L Hemi. Depends how much room is in your wallet.
