Is your JEEP fixed?

I am currently undergoing the incorrect DEF fix. In the shop for a week now --total time in shop for problems is now 17 days. I am contemplating dumping this JEEP as I can't trust it when traveling. It's too bad as I like driving it when it runs properly. I would like to know from those of you who have had the DEF/catalytic converter issues serviced--Is your JEEP fixed? Or have the same or additional problems been ongoing after the supposed fixes have been done?Your comments are important to me in evaluating whether to keep the JEEP. Thanks for you input.

Re: Is your JEEP fixed?

What year is your Jeep? if it's a 2014, there's a TSB for the SCR replacement.

I had the SCR catalyst replaced last year in November on my '14 and haven't had any problems since.

Re: Is your JEEP fixed?

I thought the majority of the diesel related problems were limited to the MY2014, but my January 2015 build MY 15 Summit just went into for a P1220 code, and the dealer wants to replace the entire DEF tank.

Unfortunately, when they tried to do the work, one of the bolts on it was stripped during install from the factory, so they had to order the entire kit that houses and holds the DEF tank in place. No definitive date on when those parts will come in, they are told by FCA it would be 3 to 5 days.

I also had to have the catalytic converter replaced. No problems since then and I regularly tow a 6k travel trailer. My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited ecodiesel has about 19k miles on it.

Re: Is your JEEP fixed?

Cat replaced about 5000 miles ago now at 31K miles runs like a champ. Never had any DEF issues. Nailing 28-29 mpg all day long too...

Re: Is your JEEP fixed?

Cleaned the EGR pipe this afternoon, just wanted to see what was going on in the after-combustion process. Anybody want some oily soot? Half a can of engine degreaser and half a can of parts cleaner to get most of the stuff off. And I took a small vacuum to the inside of the EGR intake to try and suck some more of the crap out. Me thinks the tune from GDE is going to be a smart investment. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1445648097.893792.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1445648117.160409.jpg

Re: Is your JEEP fixed?

Just had 2nd cat and new sensors put in, in the last 3 months. (1st time they put in a new cat that was the old part #).. 24K miles.
Grand total out of service time.... 1 1/2 days each occasion. Take in (with appt), get call same day you need yada yada yada... Ordered parts and will be in at 10 am tomorrow. Call at 1PM Your JEEP is done and ready to pickup. Have had back for a week and runs better than ever...

I am surely not touting my dealer as better than any other, But I read all these stories of 10-20-30 days out of service and I can guarantee a dealer would only do that once to me... Just don't get this parts not available thing.... as soon as I get an inkling of a clue that he is trying to BS me or doesn't know what he is doing, I would find another dealer the next day and then Tweet it to ChryslerCares. That will get you / that dealership some attn....

SO far my dealer has done well by this vehicle even with all its quirks and recalls and RRT's etc. Has also changed my oil 3 times on it correctly with correct oil in the correct amount with the right filter, free as that was negotiated at purchase... And does all the TSB's on each visit as they are available without asking. But if I couldn't get it fixed/ didn't trust it/ always in shop etc. I would ditch it in a minute.. Don't have time for cars that cost 55K and don't run dependably.

While its a pain to take it in, it over all is still worth it for how it performs and I still believe in it.....

Re: Is your JEEP fixed?

Jason911,

Thanks for that post, very informative.
Was the job fairly easy as I might just check out mine after 23k miles?
Also, I believe a fair amount of folks on here would appreciate your words of wisdom regarding the cleaning of our EGR pipes and inlet.

I had my SCR cat replaced on Tuesday. We've had 23k trouble free miles until the P20EE code popped up. It also coincided with our front rotors warping, which were also replaced together with pads.

I'll put together a short little narrative and throw it up on here Sunday-tomorrow afternoon. It's pretty much a straightforward easy job, took maybe all of about 30 minutes. What concerns me more is the amount of stuff I was unable to get that is inside the intake. I could see where one of my swirl valves was completely caked, which makes me think that it's permanently stuck in the open position

I cleaned my egr diffuser at 28k. It looked exactly the same. I actually just got some diesel fuel and let the metal end sit in a cup of it. That actually cleaned out the inside as well. Then I took an old t shirt and rubbed it off. The fuel loosened it all up.

To take it off you just need a 10mm and a 13mm wrench. The bolts on the intake manifold side are the smaller ones and the egr cooler side is larger. Two bolts each.
