Italian Engine = Oil Leak

I noticed a couple oil drops on my garage cement. I looked through the cutout for the drain plug and found oil down the side of the engine dripping at the drain plug. It was probably only dripping 2-3 drops per day.

I got the Jeep back from the dealer today and they said it was leaking from the lower oil pan. I was surprised that it didn't have a gasket, just sealant. They dropped the pan and resealed it. They kept it a day to make sure it stopped leaking.

I made sure they replaced the oil under warranty. I paid $47 (original price $60) for a new filter.

The Jeep has 5,100 miles on it. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1404944322.957724.jpg

They've been using sealant instead of gaskets on pans for quite a number of years now.

Re: Italian Engine = Oil Leak

i was all set on getting the diesel because i planned on doing my own maintenance. have worked on the whole top end of my dodge with the cummins, no sweat. after looking at the repair manual for the ecodiesel, i am going to stay far away! most of the parts are not serviceable, replace only.

i love diesels, but they are expensive to have someone else wrench on!
