Those of you awaiting 2017 builds of JGC CRD's, things might be on hold according to these articles. As of right now, only Jaguar and BMW can sell 2017 diesels in the US. Seems as though EPA is getting tough with testing (thanks of course to my current car maker - VW)

EPA scrutiny bogs down new diesels
http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2016/10/looking-for-a-brand-new-diesel-it-s-going-to-be-hard-to-find-one.html

I'm one awaiting an Overland CRD to be built. With the feds approving the VW buyback today, I'm in line awaiting my settlement check after handing in my 2012 Passat TDI hopefully sometime in November.

That article doesn't make any sense to me. Firstly, 17 ED were scheduled to start production 10-24. The delay was the transmission, not epa. Our ordered Limited was scheduled to be built last week as indicated by an email from FCA. Dealer emailed and said it was scheduled to be shipped 2 days ago. Also, before we ordered a 17, we looked all over the southeast and elsewhere for a 16 and very few were available, contrary to the article that said there was a back log. I haven't heard anything in the truck world about no 17 diesels. If the epa is concerned there are others cheating as VW did, they'd have to come up with an entirely new testing protocol, which would probably take years. Given VWs crucifixion over this, I really doubt there are other cheaters out there.

Tinman2, please keep us posted on your 17 Eco Diesel delivery. I just ordered a 17 Limited ED last Friday and not a word was mentioned to me that they hadn't been approved. Dealer said I'd wait about a month for my VIN and 6-8 weeks for delivery. I hope we don't get strung along for months.

Well this really sucks. I've had mine on order since early August. I thought they were going to begin October 1 and then changed to October 17 I think? This sounds like an indefinite hold. It's the same engine as last year so why a hold for just a different number in front of it? This is really disappointing. I need a new vehicle to drive.

I've been told they're on hold due to emissions certifications. Who knows how long that will take.

Also read they're no longer accepting orders on the '17 ED, anyone else hear this?

My wife ordered a '17 two weeks ago and has a VIN, FCA Customer Support says parts are being assigned for the build.

I joined this forum for this exact topic, I ordered a 17 Overland Ecodiesel 4x4 yesterday. Dealer can place the order however I was told there is a restriction and are not building anymore this month due to number of orders and parts. I was told that it will resume around Nov 10th after the next allocation.

I've never had to wait longer than 8 weeks on a new vehicle order - I understand this is out of Jeep's control but still Very Frustrating. We are in a pretty bad pinch because of this delay & it's costing me every day.
ANY factual information on the situation would be very much appreciated.

Went by dealer 2 days ago. Still in D1 status. So there is a delay. Why, no one knows. I doubt is the VW thing. The delay isn't diesels, it's EcoDiesels. The build tracting by VN doesn't work. I tried and informed FCA it didn't work and got an email that gave me an update directly. I'll email again and see if they respond.

The build tracking as you call it (its actually the equipment listing for that VIN) won't work until the vehicle is built and released from the factory because the VIN isn't placed into that system until then. The delay is for "ALL 2017 Model year light duty trucks and passenger car's" that are powered by a diesel engine. The EPA has emissions standards for light duty trucks and passenger car's i.e. must get a certain MPG and why the MPGs are listed on the window sticker along with a smog rating scale.

These standards have changed in that area of testing requirements for the EPA for model year 2017. This IS THE REASON you won't find any light duty trucks and passenger car's on a dealer lot of any manufacture except the ones that have passed (I believe only Jaguar and Land Rover to date) or already met the requirement for MY 2017. There are MY 2017 Ram 2500/3500 Cummins 6.7 Diesel Heavy Duty trucks on dealer lots right now because they don't have to meet these requirements (look at a window sticker on a RAM 2500 or 3500 and where the MPG are usually listed there aren't any because the EPA requirement does not apply to HD's). Try to find a 2017 GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado with the 2.8L DuraMax diesel on a lot you wont find one until they pass the emission's requirement for MY 2017. How about a VW TDI for MY 2017??? No there aren't any they didn't pass either...wait a minute they are why we are in this mess....I digress...
The last thing and then I'll get off of my soap box....I keep saying "pass" it isn't so much about passing the test because the standard didn't change...but the testing itself. The EPA didn't change the testing requirements they changed they way they conduct the test...its very unpredictable on how it is administered. This is why it is taking so long...hang in there have some patience...it will happen in a matter of time.

Here is what Chrysler has to say...

According to our Ram Program Management Team your 2017 Jeep Grand
Cherokee Trailahwk 4x4 is waiting on government and EPA certification
for the 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel Engine. This paperwork must be received
before your vehicle can be built. With that being said, at this time FCA
US LLC has not released any official information indicating when this
paperwork will be received.

I would encourage you to visit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
website on a periodic basis for any and all information as it becomes
available:

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/index.htm

We apologize for this delay and would recommend that he contact us back
in mid/late-November, 2016 for an update.

Hey just so everyone knows....all of my information is from research from the internet and a few years of experience under my belt. That said, taking what is from open source sites EPA and a few others and then looking at information on how VW was caught in trying to beat the emission standards...some defeat device...it only makes sense for the EPA trying to keep an "honest man honest". What really gets me at times is on how hard a business or at times a person will work at trying to get out of something. If they would focus all that time and effort in doing the right thing they probably would have spent less time and effort in accomplishing the task at hand. VW especially now I'm sure 10 billion dollars later wished they would have took the straight and narrow road in the first place. Because the bottom line is in this case is...if you want to sell light duty diesels in the US you must meet the standard...I'm sure they made a little money up front...but they are paying it all back now. Save time and effort and do it right the first time.

Here's the latest I have found...The California emissions test is the same or harder than the EPA....so I check the CARB site almost daily and I found that yesterday November 9th, that GM has certified their Colorado and Canyon 2.8L Duramax diesel...Hopefully here soon FCA will have the JGC and Ram 1500 Ecodiesels certified. Here's what it looks like see attachment.

From the Land of Fruits and Nuts. Now that the election is over, the EPA will be ripe for change. Modern diesel is not the enemy, it's the best thing available today for the power/cost ratio. Electric hybrids are still not there yet, and likely never will be.

The blowhards in office for the last eight year, with multiple AF1 and AF2 trips (Hillary traveled more than any previous SECSTATE), all which usually consist of multiple support aircraft, (not to mention how this Admin liked to take separate flights for family trips,) have all emitted more NOx's than all the VW TDI's in the US combined.

AirBull: Amen brother

Barboots: I think you missed the point.

Got an email from FCA the other day. As stated previously; held up for certification. I think testing is done (all engine have to be certified every year -nothing new there), but just waiting on some bureaucratic hold up - paperwork. No telling when resolution is coming.

I ordered my JGC ED 08/10/16.Had an Estimated ship date of 10/17/17. A check with the dealer saw a status change on 10/22/17 that om JGC ED was in Paint. A week later the status was back at "D". Just recently after calling customer case and opening a case I get a call from my Dealer advising that they are being held up by the EPA for emission Certification. Called Customer Care again and they can not find my case so the opened up another case for me. Getting nothing from FCA. Dealer feels it should open up soon. I figure I am looking at Mid Jan. Early Feb. Bummer

Finally I received official news on my JGC ED build. I contacted customer care in a chat on Jeep Customer Care site and here is their response;

Our Jeep Information Agent responding stating:
"According to our Jeep Program Management Team; consumers vehicle remains in Firm Schedule "D" status as Jeep is waiting on government and EPA certification for the 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel Engine. This paperwork must be received before consumers vehicle can be built.

We regret to advise that we are unable to predict when consumers vehicle will begin production; however, it will be at least 2-3 weeks from now. We apologize for this delay and would recommend that he contact us back late-November, 2016 for an update. "
