Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

Vitrually all diesels sold in cars and trucks are turbo'ed. Turbos last as long as the engine typically since most are both water and oil cooled. Most will continue to circulate water until the temps are low enough to prevent oil coking.

What maintenance outside of oil and filter changes are you speaking of?
I ran my Super Duty 189K miles before selling it to a family member and never one issue with the engine or turbo. I think this is normal.

My speculation is that the engine will last a long time but once a repair like an injector pump needs replaced it will be hugely expensive. Replacing a turbo isn't that hard to do.

I guess we will just have to see how this all comes out down the road...

Had a number of Diesel vehicles... never once needed a Turbo repair or replacement! In fact never anything on the engine other than a sensor once and an AdBlue Heater line on the Mercedes.

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

I'm not so much worried about the first 8 years and 120K miles...its after that worries me. I wish I could get a warranty that starts at 150K and at the 10 years mark. But then again it goes back to the "does it cost more to fix than the vehicle's worth". I dont think it will be a problem...if you take care of it, don't abuse it, and do the required maintenance it will last 15 plus years and 300K plus...just my two cents.

The good news is that not too long ago, people started worrying and dumping vehicles at the 70,000 mile mark. My uncle tried to convince my mom to trade in her 1993 Plymouth Duster for a new Neon right at 70k. My mom said no way, she loved her car. She drove it relatively problem free (except for oil leaks... ugh) until my sister killed it at 123,000 miles.

If confidence has more than doubled these days, that's a GOOD thing.

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

Hello from a new member. I am going back to talk numbers with my dealer (for a JGC diesel overland 4x4) tomorrow. I need some help. What should I pay for a Chrysler MaxCare 8year/120K extended warranty? Can I purchase this online from another dealer? Also I saw one member got a CNA lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. If offered how much should I pay for that? Also does CNA stand for Chrysler North America? Thanks for you help and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

CNA is an insurance company...no relation to Chrysler. It's a third party extended service contract. And yes, you can purchase the Mopar extended service contract (it's not a "warranty") from other dealers online if you wish and the price is better. You could use those prices to help negotiate with your dealer, too, and may then be able to do the deed with them.

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

I used the $2,000 offer from an online Jeep dealer to negotiate the same price on my 8 year warranty. I don't know if I could have gotten it for less, but my dealer didn't even blink at the $2,000.

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

I was planning to buy a diesel GC soon and get the lifetime maxcare. Now I see that someone was told by their dealer that it's not possible. Will all due respect to the OP, I have seen dealers and salesmen be wrong before. I would like to read it for myself. Does anyone have a link to an official statement or to the text of the extended service contract itself? To anything more substantial than, "the dealer told me"?

I looked on Chrysler's extended plan website moparvehicleprotection.com and the only reference I could find was this list of covered components, under "engine". Note that there is not a stated exclusion for diesels, but a diesel component (fuel injection pump) is specifically included.

ENGINE
  • Air Cleaner Assembly (excluding element)
  • Core Plugs
  • Cylinder Block and all Internal Parts
  • Cylinder Head Assemblies
  • Evaporation Canister & Hoses
  • Flex Plate / Drive Plate
  • Flywheel with Starter Ring Gear
  • Fuel Injection Pump (Diesel engines only)
  • Fuel Injectors (excluding clogged injectors)
  • Harmonic Balancer
  • Hose, Secondary Air Supply
  • Hoses & Clamps
  • Idler Pulley
  • Intake and Exhaust Manifolds
  • Oil Pan
  • Oil Pump
  • Pulleys & Sprockets
  • Pump, Air
  • Pump, Leak Detection and Hoses/Lines
  • Seals and Gaskets
  • Serpentine Belt Tensioner
  • Supercharger
  • Timing Case, Chain, Gears, Belt and Sprockets
  • Turbocharger Housing and all Internal Parts
  • Turbocharger Waste Gate Actuator
  • Valve Covers
  • Valve, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control
  • Water Pump and Housing

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

At chryslerwarranty.com (independent reseller, I believe), they state:

Maximum Care is an exclusionary extended warranty, often referred to as a "Bumper-to-Bumper warranty" and as such if it's not excluded, it's covered. (emphasis added by me) The only parts and labor not covered are:
  • Maintenance services and items used in such services.
  • Glass, plastic lenses.
  • Body and paint items, including soft trim.
  • Wear items such as manual clutch assembly, brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums and belts are not covered at any time.
  • Snow plows, winches and trailer hitches

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

Yet that same website (I'm assuming you meant chryslerwarrantys.com) will NOT let you select a lifetime warranty for a '14 JGC EcoDiesel.

Simply put, it isn't available.

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

I was told lifetime was not offered on the diesel because the truck and van guys would kill them on the warranty. I got 7yr/100k zero deductible for $2400.

Re: Lifetime Extended Warranty Not Available On New JGC Diesel

Lifetime is not available but I talked to a rep at Mopar who advised that I get a shorter term warranty and then when I am near the end of that warranty that I could extend it and that the lifetime warranty is available under and extension. I have no way of knowing if this is true but I spoke with here a few times and have her number so I hope she was not wrong. There is one dealer on line that is listing warranties that are far cheaper than anywhere else and found when looking for Chrysler warranty plans but was told by my dealer that they had been warned that they were not authorized to sell it at that price. Said I was taking a chance of it not being honored.

Not sure how valid that statement is but since I was able to finance the warranty through that dealer I figured the extra 100 was not worth the battle at that time.

I put about 30K on each year so somewhere around year two I will have to see about getting an extension so until then I can only repeat what was told to me. Perhaps you can call mopar and ask the same question.
