Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

Hey everyone, I've been lurking this forum for a while waiting for the right time to buy a new GC. I've been checking the local dealer websites near me (NY/CT area) and it seems that maybe 70% of the 2014's left that I have seen are Ecodiesels. Seems like a lot of the dealers near me are having trouble moving them. I've wanted an Ecodiesel since they came out but I'm having a hard time justifying the price compared to the gas V6. This car will mostly be my wife's daily driver and something for us to take on weekend trips. I'm a huge fan of diesels (I own an 05 Ram 2500 Cummins diesel) but the new ones with DPF's and DEF worry me. So our original plan was to order a 2015 V6 Limited or Overland but with all these 2014 diesels left I'm assuming there must be some good deals to be had. Have any of you guys bought a 2014 Ecodiesel recently? If so how far below invoice pricing have you negotiated? I know about the DC Group Buy pricing but if I can get a similar deal locally on a 2014 I would rather do that. Thanks!

Re: Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

I got a 2014 Limited Ecodiesel with tow package and lux 2 package. Website listed $42,600.

In looking around, that was a great price. Most others with tow and lux2 were starting at 45.

Went to dealer and spent most of my time negotiating my trade. After, getting that close to my price. He comes back and says "ok, we'll sell u the gc for $46k." I said "nope" and showed him their internet listing. He was kind if shocked. But, of course said, ok, that's the price.

Turns out gc is a 1/14 build and was prob delivered to lot in March/April

So, sitting for a while, and prob the reason $7k off sticker. But, so far so good. Only issue, is for some reason the flashlight in the back was missing. Went back and they had one waiting for me.

Re: Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

At least in some parts of Canada Jeep has been offering a free diesel engine upgrade on the 2014s for the last few months which is an amazing deal. Model and color i want had one or two left out these at one point but not quite the right options and had been on the lot for several months.

If i didn't find this forum and read all the issues on the 2014 diesels may have gone for it. I'm going to wait to see how these 2015s are once they come off the line and hopefully order one of those. Im hopeful the bugs are being worked out.

I wish they offered a no charge diesel option in the US! If they did that it would be a no brainer.

Yeah I know most of these have been sitting on the lot for at least a few months so that does worry me a little bit. I will check the build date on any of them that I look at, and I will probably purchase the 8yr/120k max care package with it if I went the diesel route.

ScottG where are you from? Just curious if you noticed a lot of 2014 diesels in your area...

I'm in Northern Virginia. Needed diesel and tow package. Diesel only starts a Limited.

When I looked, only 2 in the area. One was the gold color, the other the red. Plus the red, the one I got, had the lux2 and was listed at $2k less.

Re: Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

Hmm maybe it's just up here in the northeast that they seem to be sitting. I talked to a salesman at one dealer about it and asked him if they were having trouble selling them and he told me everyone was buying them when they first came out and then they ordered too many after that. I don't know if that was a true answer or not.

Re: Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

Bought a Summit this week at about $7K off sticker. There are a few left here (in NC). Thing is...the only color I didn't want was black and my usual Jeep dealer had 4 black diesels. The place I bought it from had 3 left, and 2 were black. I got the one granite. A few around...but seeing a good many non-diesel 2014s too.

Got a 2014 JGC Summit with the no charge Diesel and they gave me too much for my trade in about 4 months ago. I figure about $8k off sticker. Had to hunt for one with "every option including rear BluRay" and bring it in from out of town.

Re: Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

I almost bought a 2014 Limited at my dealer in August. Wanted better lights and better passenger seat adjustments for the wife...and this vehicle didn't have the Luxury II option, so we ordered a 2015 Overland.

That diesel had been sitting in the lot for 7 months in July. 3 months later...still there, with a decent discount off list.

The $4.5k cost immediately makes it a costly purchase to anyone who flips cars regularly. We are planning to keep our next vehicle purchase for 10 years; we can see a payback over that period of time.

Anyone who buys a 2014 is going to end up with the same CAT/DEF setup as the new 2015 models, particularly if the engineers manage to figure out the bugs in the system. The only issue will be whether the 2014's reliability record impacts the resale value of the vehicle more than what you saved when you bought it.

Yes there have been a lot of negative reports about reliability for the 2014s, the resale value could be a real problem down the road. Diesels should hold their resale value better than gas but with all the complicated emissions equipment I wonder if we are going to see a change in that trend in the future.

Re: Lots of 2014 Ecodiesels left over

Just hit 30,000 miles on my 2014 Ecodiesel and going in for my third oil change/tire rotation. Not 1 issue with it since I picked it up. Planning to have this vehicle for at least a few more years and I'd do it again. Though I have heard some horror stories I guess I just lucked out with my unicorn.

I honestly can't imagine had I gotten a gaser this is my first diesel and i'll never go back. Everything just seems a lot smoother. The torque is always there when you need it. Most of my driving is on Long Island NY and getting on and off the freeway has never been an issue for me either.

Then again I am coming from a Wrangler so the comfort alone might be swaying my opinion quite a bit.
