I have two dents in my piping also and are in the approximately the same locations. I believe they were intentional and specifically the second dent is to insure the pipe has clearance away from the heat shield on the driveline when perhaps offroading due to exhaust movement / vibration.

I would not have known about them if I wasn't looking for that Dang Fuel Filter water drain plug/filters.

I will look on a dealers lot for another Diesel JGC to confirm.

Re: Magnaflow exhaust..installed

I was under mine a couple of days ago and noticed the same dents after the DPF the pipe does a dog leg. The one Dent/kink is about 1" deep.

I have a customer who does precision tubing bending for aircraft, subs, nuclear and I can tell you these dents/kinks are not normal.

When I saw them I said to myself some stupid a$$ used the wrong size mandrel on the tubing bender.
I just today had my jeep to the dealer for the first oil change and mentioned and showed these dents/kinks to my service manager. He took pics and is sending them to factory engineers.
My guess is he will tell me that they are all that way,but that does not make it correct it is restricting flow and this is especially true since they are on bends already.
I will report back when he calls me,since he is my neighbor.

Both dents I noticed are just after the DPF and before you get to the bolt on Y pipe. At first, I thought it was something I did, but after seeing the placement of both, I could tell it was as if it was intentional. The 2nd one is right one a marked line. That pipe is welded to the dpf, so you'd have to cut out and fit a new/proper pipe.

Each dent is on opposite sides, so if anyone has a moment to slide under their rig, if be interested to see what everyone else has.

Actually the Ecodiesel does have a cat. It is part of the DEF system.

Re: Magnaflow exhaust..installed

Well, I visited a different dealership from where I purchased my JGC Diesel. Looking under a JGC Diesel I saw two dents identical to mine.

There must be a reason for these dents or else Jeep Quality Assurance would not let them pass.
  1. MuSh installed an after market Mangaflow muffler system which had them.
  2. Dsent located in Conway,SC which also has the dents.
  3. I have them on his JGC Summit Diesel which I purchased in Odessa, TX
  4. I looked at a JGC Overland Diesel in Midland, TX which also had the same dents.

Dscent did you ever hear back from your dealer after they contacted the factory engineers?

As I previously stated I believe they are intentional and specifically the second dent is to insure the pipe has clearance away from the heat shield on the driveline when perhaps offroading due to exhaust movement / vibration.

This made me chuckle. Not trolling, though. I'm still committed to buying despite the reputed QA issues

I guess I am at a loss here of why this made you chuckle? Has Jeep blatantly passed equipment that was visibly damaged or impaired or is it more an issue of a part failing out in the field?

Yup the Ecodiesel uses DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) to reduce NOx emissions. Check out the attached product brief or the link to a DEF Overview for more information.
