Significant experience with both Mahle and Mann and those are the best out there. I am curious if they are now using China or Korea to manufacture the filters.
For those that have looked at the filter, is this smaller o ring in the right place on the neck of the filter? A bunch of ram guys were getting butt hurt and saying it was too low for their version, but the Jeep's o ring is supposed to be lower.
Didn't they do something last year like move the O-ring so it would be compatible with both the Ram engine and ours? The original 68109834AA part number had the low O-ring.

Its just so much cheaper too. I spoke with the German testers yesterday and they ran tests on it for fitment and seal. They said it fit both part numbers
Yupppp. I just put it in at my last oil change. 2500 so far and no issues. I'm going to do a black stone analysis at the end of this oil change. RAM guys can't use it because of the smaller o ring on the neck. There way their oil filter housing is it didn't fully seat. From what I understand, the 2014 WK2 Eco left the factory with the exact same style of filter from MAHLE.
This is the explanation given from GDE on another forum:
The WK (Grand Cherokee) engines are now using the same oil filter as the Ram as a service part, in that direction they are compatible but using a WK filter in a Ram is not compatible.
The O-ring placement is important due to the housing drain-back feature on the Ram that is not present on the WK engine. This is in place on the Ram due to the angle the filter is canted at, and allows oil to drain out of the housing when loosening the cap so that it doesn't spill out and make a huge mess.
If you use the WK filter in a DS engine, then you'll always be allowing some un-filtered oil to pass thru the drain-back circuit and back into the pan.
Ecogard's are available and cheaper. Wouldn't have a worry in the world about using one. Have Ecogard fuel filters in now for appx 20K and working flawlessly.... Will be replacing again in a few months with same thing...
Prices range widely on Amazon I've seen Mahles for 13.00 and I've seen them for 30.00 depending on Amazon suppliers. If you see them cheap, buy 2 !
