Re: Maintenance Schedule

Temperature is measured with my IR gun. It takes very little shifting through the gear box to reach a suitable temp. This is rather easy to do by the way...

I have friends in this weekend it is Monday that will drag ha ha. I hope to post pics and detail once I get back most likely Wednesday afternoon...

Re: Maintenance Schedule

When you compare the maintenance Schedule for the exact same vehicle 3.0L GC in Australia to the US schedule it is worlds apart.

Australian Schedule:-

The engine oil and filter is changed every 10000klms.

8 Speed ZF transmission oil and filter at 50000klms.

Front and rear differential oils at 40000klms.

Transfer case at 50000klms.

I feel the US market is looking at keeping maintenance costs as low as possible to appeal to large fleet markets.

In Australia they are obviously not chasing that market and using servicing cost so dealers can make a some additional money.....

My last vehicle had a ZF 6 spd trans with the same sealed for life schedule. As long as it makes it out of the warranty period the manufacturers are happy.

As I was using this vehicle for towing a reasonably heavy boat I changed the oil and filter in the trans every 50000 klms.

The ZF trans is a very well built trans the weak point was the transmission heat exchanger that was known to fail allowing coolant to contaminant the trans fluid. Quite an expensive milk shake !!!!

Re: Maintenance Schedule

That is absolutely what is going on here. If you look across all the manufacturers they are all chasing the Asian maintenance schedules which don't require as much maintenance as other manufacturers.
The ZF transmission is a good one and the US drive train is warranted to 100K miles which means yep they think it will run the warranty period with minimal maintenance then it is the owners problem.
I will be following a schedule closer to what ZF recommends for the US models which is 80K kms for a transmission change and I like doing the other fluids at the same time.
I like the OZ schedule which I think promotes long life.

Mark sent my paperwork UPS next day air which given the weather is day after next day air so I am going to be scrambling to get him the paperwork in time to quick turn my ride.
I plan to remind him about not drilling the bumper and filling the DEF tank. I am hoping they will run it down to the Shell station and fill with diesel as I really don't want to waste time doing that and coming back since I leave at rush hour in Houston, how nice is that?
Cheers

Re: Maintenance Schedule

Check the levels of your antifreeze and power steering fluid. My antifreeze is just a hair below the minimum and finding fluid is impossible. Power steering was just at minimum. Both fluids are expensive so I wish I noticed on pickup and had them add some so the levels were not right at the margin.

Oil and brake fluid were right at the edge too but not as crazy expensive to top off.

Re: Maintenance Schedule

Sounds like good advice to me. I will check them and tire pressures as a minimum but as Shannon said I will do a detail look when I get home using the checklist. That checklist is excellent but as long as everything looks good will do that at home.
What day is it? Oh yeah Thursday just ah 5 days to go...
Interstate 10 closed from Tallahassee to Pensacola which is 160 miles because of ice. Never saw them do that before...

You do not have to hand him a physical receipt. I took a pic of the receipt, attached it to an email, and sent it on to Mark. He responded that he got it and would get a check sent out to me. Hmm...Haven't received that yet, nor the paper work for my extended warranty. Maybe I need to give them a call!

You are almost there! The roads should be all thawed out for you!

Thanks for reminding me - I gave him receipt almost 2 weeks ago and still no check.

Re: Maintenance Schedule

There is sure to be a jeep commercial during the Superbowl which is certain to get your attention and make you even more anxious for Tuesday to come. I know you have a long ride home but I am going to be that even as you pull onto your street you will still be admiring your new truck.

Oh set your GPS before you leave, does not let you put an address in when you are moving. Wish there was a way to disable that.

Re: Maintenance Schedule

Cool I suspect as busy as this dealership is that there will be no diesel fuel there so I will fill it up and send the receipt to Mark.
I UPS'ed the paperwork back to Mark today. He had all the paperwork done for a new plate in Florida which I hope to transfer my old one and save 400 bucks. Will call the DMV tomorrow as they are off today because of the roads where I live. How many times do you hear of roads closed because of ice in Florida? Just about zero ha ha.

I hope to join my fellow diesel juice brothers (and sisters) soon...

Took me a few weeks to receive my check for reimbursement, but it did eventually show up in the mail.

Re: Maintenance Schedule

Well I got my oil filters in and wow these are something that looks like Mann made them and I paid about 30 bucks a piece for them. Once quantity comes up these should come down in price. I compared them to my Mann BMW oil filters of which I looked at 3 different cartridges and they are very similar except for the O ring connector in the bottom.
With that exception there is nothing special about this filter except it is way over priced.

At least they go 10K miles between changes...
