Good to hear... they probably want it back to look at it. First Catastrophic failure I have seen on these.

Re: Major EcoDiesel Injector Pump Issue

To be honest, I'm not really sure what's happening with the vehicle itself at the moment. I was told I would continue to have use of the rental until the replacement is delivered.... Unless.... They get my truck running and then I would have to use that until the replacement is delivered. Parts were supposed to be in yesterday and I think I would have heard if they got it running.

Did the jeep engineers ever figure out what happened to your jeep?

Re: Major EcoDiesel Injector Pump Issue

This is an older thread ... but wanted to add that I have a GC EcoDiesel that has been in the shop for over a week - injector pump fail. Vehicle is a Sept 2013 build Overland...

Same as OP, driving down the road and lost all power, with malfunction messages flashing. Dealer is currently replacing the IP. They also mentioned that this is their first IP replacement on the Diesel - and would be slow since they are going by the book, step by step. Not exactly comforting.

Got another call after a week that it'll take a few more days to complete the repair, since they found out all 4 injectors have to be replaced at the same time. Not just the two defective I presume.

TG I had a Service contract.

Obviously some concerns with reliability going forward.

Re: Major EcoDiesel Injector Pump Issue

When is it too late to buy an extended warranty on my 2014 Grand Cherokee? I declined when I purchased, but am thinking now I want some sort of warranty after 3yr/36,000. Not just for this problem, but the entire exhaust after treatment and valve guide problems showing up. Thanks.

My jeep had the hpfp fail. The original fix was to replace all injectors the full lines and the HPFP.

I was then plagued with multiple visits for fuel leaks. Ultimately I had three additional injectors replaced at two visits and 1 fuel line replaced, then all the fuel lines replaced again.

I am not sure if these issues were related to faulty installation by my dealer or as a result of the metal that was sent through the fuel system. I can see either as a cause, or maybe a combination of both. Either way not a happy customer

Ultimately, like the OP my jeep was approved for a buy back. I am still however waiting for my replacement vehicle due to an error in ordering and the timing of my replacement approval (after manufacturing of 2015s stopped and prior to manufacturing of 2016s).

My advice, start talking to jeep customer care about this to at least get a dialogue going.

I don't think there is a time that is too late, however, the price goes up with miles driven and the number of miles you can use it goes down. Cost benefit decreases over time.

Re: Major EcoDiesel Injector Pump Issue

I believe we run the Bosch CP4.2 HPFP on our EcoDiesel, just as many VW, Audi, GM, and Ford diesels. It's an otherwise great fuel pump if you run good diesel through it like they do in Europe. Unfortunately, the diesel standard in the US is much lower, and with the reduction in the sulfur content in the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel, or ULSD, in 2006, the diesel in the US lost a lot of it's lubricity. Perhaps one of the few good things about biodiesel is that B5 replaces much of the lubricity lost in ULSD, (but don't add anything greater than B5 as it has negative affects on our CR diesels with SCR.)

So, in order to combat the possibility of getting some poor quality diesel, I add a lubricity additive at every fill. If you run nothing else, add some lubricity additive; it's relatively inexpensive and the small PITA of adding it before you fill your tank is worth the piece of mind. I use Stanadyne but do your own research and see for yourself. Just Google "Bosch CP4.2 lubricity" and you will see what I'm talking about.

Did injector replacement fix the issue? Some users on the Ram Diesel forum have had the fuel pump gear on the cam spin.

FCA Extended Warranty, I believe that needs to be purchased within 12 months of the in service date.

The exhaust after treatment isn't covered by extended warranty. Emissions are covered by the mandated 8/80k factory warranty.
