Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

77 miles after the dealer "fixed" mine the p20ee reappeared. I had a little go round with the service writer when I picked up the truck. I won't rehash it here except to say he would not tell me what the error code was. Please look at this post for that story (I probably should have posted it here)
Poor performance from Jeep Service

Our choices were buy back, see if this repair fixes it (maybe get 3 months of cars payments back), or see if this repair fixes it and if not after 30, 60, or 90 days then do a buy back. Could only pick one of the 3 and once picked no changing. So we decided on just doing the buy back now. I will let everyone know how that process shakes out.
Rear dif did come in and they will install it next week. We will get the jeep back for a few weeks, if this repair works, while going through the buy back process.
Chrysler manger and dealership service manager were very nice during this discussion. They did say because my wife has been so understanding this whole time. They really wanted to go to bat for us and get this worked out. So, sometimes being nice works. We shall see once the numbers hit the paper.
So, we will be looking at a 2015 Grand Cherokee Summit V8 without the diesel this time and maybe no 4X4. I just don't think they have all the bugs worked out of the diesel yet.
We got our Jeep back Friday. Who knows what all they did to it because we got no paper work back. So, far it is running good (50ish miles). We got our call from ISG about the buyback. They said 3 weeks would be the minimum turn around time. Went to the dealer Saturday to find a replacement and they have nothing in stock or coming in that will work (v8 Summit non 4X4 Black on Black with chrome package). They don't seem to happy to look for one at another dealership or order one. So, I have reached out to ISG and the district manager to see what they can do. We did find one on our owner at a dealer a few hundred miles away but not sure how all this will shake out.

Go to another dealership and order one. That's what I did. Even though my original dealer had an exact replacement option for option color for color I refused to deal with them any longer. My new dealership had no problem with ordering one and I was told today it is already in production so I should see it in a few weeks apparently it got push to the front of the line.

I'm going back for the second visit, what should I expect the dealer to do this time? Thanks.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Adl6009, demand to know what the code was. That should have been documented in your service paperwork -o r put more accurately, I don't know why they wouldn't document it there, or at least they should tell you so that you can write it down. Whenever something that I think is key is not noted on the service paperwork, I ask the advisor for that info and then make note of that directly on the paperwork.

My P20EE fix took several trips to the dealer, and now 6,000 miles later it has not tripped, so either it is truly fixed, or they disabled the code somehow. I hope it is truly fixed, but I don't know how I could truly tell.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

My worry about the P20EE is that the original cats are lasting up to 20,000 miles before tripping the code. Does replacing the cat and performing the flashes REALLY fix the problem, or will it happen again to the new cat 10-20,000 miles after replacement?

So far I don't think anyone has had a problem after cat replacement, but I'm not sure anyone has driven far enough to know the problem is cured. I have almost 14,000 on my original cat and no code yet. I can't help but feel that it's only a matter of time though...tick tock.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Data point... Had the P20EE error code and engine light starting last week. Took an extended interstate road trip yesterday pulling a motorcycle trailer and it went out about halfway through the initial leg of the trip. It'll probably come back, but interesting that it must have stopped throwing the code and the engine light went out.

I'm at 16,000 miles now and it had done a regen at about 14,000.

Regens are done every 150-200 miles, not every 2000.

Dealer has now agreed to order one but says there is a hold on V8's till next month. The hits keep coming. The jeep is still running good though. So, hopefully it will stay out of the shop until the new one comes in.

Glad to hear it. Mine's back in the shop again, I'm still waiting to hear what's wrong with it now. I don't even want to pick it up because in a few days I'll have to bring it back in for repairs. It been a constant cycle. I'm just hoping my new one comes in soon.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Hey Gang,

By way of update, I had my CAT replaced just about 2 months ago after going through the P20EE dance, and have driven about 1500 miles and so far so good on that front. You can find me prior post on the experience earlier in this thread if you're new to this topic.

HOWEVER, I'm now dealing with another related issue that I hope to have resolved next week but wanted to bring to your attention in case anyone encounters the same thing. During one of my first Regens after the repair, I noticed a very strong chemical burning smell, and white smoke was wafting up over the hood and actually getting pulled back into the AC and vented into the cabin. I crossed my fingers and prayed it was just the oils/labels, etc. from the new parts burning off and it would burn off and go away after a couple hundred miles. Now, 3 noticeable Regens and over 1,000 miles later, the issue is continuing to occur. I say "noticeable" Regens because my daily commute has me on the freeway for about 10-15 minutes, which happens to be just enough time for the Regen process to start, but it is often not fully complete by the time I pull into my driveway and the excess heat, and odor is very noticeable when parked.

After some research, I discovered that there is a common issue on the Dodge Ram trucks with the 3.0 Ecodiesel with the turbo coupling which is located just in front of the firewall, cracking and causing an exhaust leak, which in turn results in this exact condition I'm experiencing. I have a service appointment a week from today where they have promised to test the exhaust system for a leak, and if necessary do a forced Regen to see if they can re-create the condition and identify the cause if it happens to be something other than a leaky exhaust coupling so we'll see. My guess is they either cracked the coupling when they installed the new CAT, or the new CAT wasn't properly installed to begin with. We shall see and I'll report back.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Got phone call on 04/21 (it took 6 days including the weekend - it was ordered on 04/15) to deliver DPF filter. Jeep is running good - no CEL but is getting the new part anyway on Friday other wise they have to ship it to other dealer for some one in bigger need.
