At the VERY least they need to give you the latest flash when you visit and many dealers are immediately ordering a cat. This P20EE error is a simple problem to resolve if your dealer is even semi-competent. 2 or 3 visits tops and you should be DONE, not just starting. I'm not even sure why a "star case" is required at this point!

For all I know, they may do all that when I turn it in. Gotta schedule an appointment. Free time is not my friend lately.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

My car has been at the dealership for 43 straight days, home for three, back to the dealership for 7 days, home for four and now back for the last 5 days. This is just the last three months. My Jeep case manager escalated my case to a potential buy back. We will know on Monday what the offer is. I was told on the phone that my new case manager had never seen a service history like ours. All exhaust related. The wife wants a V6 gas replacement. Our diesel days are numbered. I can't even drive the truck as a daily driver without throwing a code. I did jokingly mention that I would be willing to use the 10 year warranty and it could cost Jeep upwards of 200000 in warranty work. My case manager actually got a laugh at that. We absolutely love the Jeep during the three or four days we get to drive it a month.

Ouch, if yours is replaced I can understand your feeling snake bit and not wanting another diesel, but try reconsidering that decision. Mine has not been trouble free but many CRD owners are very happy and the engine is great, mixing good power with good fuel economy. One of the times mine was in the shop for several days (P20EE) the dealership got me an Enterprise rental and it was the V-6 gas WK2. It was much thirstier than my CRD and nowhere near the torque which was quite noticeable. I'll see if I can find my notes on the comparison. I think I posted about it here, maybe even upthread here.

Sorry to hear of your experience. Being '14 owners we knew we were being the beta testers for Jeep's new (to the US market) engine and transmission. That comes with risks.

Overall my wife and I love the GC CRD. So far. It has been 15 months and 19K miles. I would like to get 300K miles out of it so I'm not even at 10% of the total miles I want out of this rig. It's still early.

Owen, good luck to you in how this plays out.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Back on post #21 upthread on 29 Jan 2015 I noted this.

Quote:
Around town the CRD is much much peppier than the 3.6L. On the freeway, passing speeds are pretty good although the 3.6L is also decent, but the 3.6L is louder while the CRD sounds more refined. The 3.6L's exhaust note sounds more "growly" while the CRD again is more refined.

Then there's the fuel economy and I know we all know about that, or most of us.
I think my fuel log book has notes about the mpg I got with the 3.6L engine. I'll share here if I find that.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

I had another code. This one was something like "underperforming sensor intake runner...". Either way, they are replacing my 'cat' as they call it, aka SCR. They actually had the part in stock.
Once these are replaced, does this solve the issues?

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

My ride went in for a CEL and yes it was the CAT. My dealer didn't have the part in stock Thursday afternoon but called me Friday afternoon.
New CAT done.
These guys rock! Been to them a couple times Lee Dodge/ Jeep in Fort Walton Beach and they are top notch.
I am hoping I never see another CEL from this problem again. They said they are replacing many of these.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Last Thursday, I was about 500 miles into a 1,100 mile road trip when the dreaded MIL light came on. I spend a fair amount of time on this site so I had a pretty good idea I had just joined the P20EE club. I called the dealer on my way home and told them what was going on. BTW…The MIL light cleared on it’s own with ~70 miles left on the trip after a refueling stop.

They scheduled me in yesterday (Monday morning) and I was prepared to start the proverbial battle that so many folks on this site have experienced. Once I got there, the SA asked me a couple of questions and then said to me “it’s probably the catalytic converter”. Once the tech confirmed the P20EE code they wasted no time in replacing the Cat (TSB 18-045-14) and flashed the TCM with s/w 181905AC. I got the Jeep back this afternoon – a day and a half later! Hopefully this will be the last of the MIL lights.

I feel for all the folks struggling with their dealerships and vehicles. I got lucky that my dealer had seen this before and had a replacement cat in stock. Prior to this I’ve only had a couple of minor issues that were all resolved with s/w flashes during normal service intervals. I purchased my Summit in Jan of 2014 (17.2K miles) and really love this vehicle.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Grady2014, welcome to the club - but you left so soon, was it something we said? Glad to hear of your very quick turnaround time!

I bought mine in March 2014 and have 19K miles on it. I too love this rig.

Maybe it has something to do with the sh¡tty B20 that the State of Illinois forces their residents to consume? Illinois and Minnesota are the worst biodiesel offenders.
