As far as I understand it, an RRT is basically equivalent to what an owner would consider to be a recall. However, the term "recall" is legally defined and tends to be reserved for safety-related problems that have federally-coordinated campaigns.

Hence, we have recalls for exploits that allow hackers to remotely traverse our poorly designed system bus and wreak havoc while we're driving, and recalls for visor wiring that catches fire and turns our cabins into crematoria, but we have RRTs for defective SCR cats that at worst will just leave the vehicle dead on the side of the road thanks to the EPA's "inducement" firmware code for emissions-related problems.

YMMV if you're out of warranty, of course.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

The RRT says , for the valid VIN vehicles:
1. Verify the PCM software is up to date.
2. Replace the SCR catalyst.
Apparently, it doesn't matter if you have had a P20EE code, or not.

I am debating what I will do. I had a P20EE code that went away 12,000 miles ago. I have the original CAT. I was going with the theory "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." However, I suppose it is best to get the CAT replaced soon while the vehicle is under warranty.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

I am in the midst of getting this done for my P20EE code. Unfortunately, I couldn't get an appointment that worked for us as we live a small town with one dealer and the next one is over 60 miles away!

However, I am on with Jeep Customer service and they confirmed that my vehicle is one included in the RRT, which GUARANTEES you get a new SCR Cat.

However, there may be other issues involved with the P20EE, which is why you must take it in and have the dealership pull up ALL the faults that are included/associated with the P20EE code.

Best way to get your "ducks in a row" is to call Jeep Customer Service, give them your VIN and ensure that your vehicle is included in the RRT.

I found the guy I spoke with , Jesse, to be really "up" on the issue and he really is working with me to get this fixed ASAP. Even though my dealer has no service openings until next Friday, he is on with them to see if they can get our Overland in so that they can simply pull the codes, order the parts and then schedule another appointment to have them installed when they receive them. This is a known issue and not one of those "I've a weird noise in my engine", so simply bring it in and let us check it out. It doesn't require hours of diagnostics and road tests!!!

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

I had the SCR CAT replaced today as per the RRT. They also replaced the DEF injector/doser since it was also clogged. Attached are a couple photos. The first shows the entire SCR CAT (about 6 foot long exhaust system). The second picture is a closeup of the DEF inlet. Mine was about 75% clogged by a white substance. The mechanic says it is calcium. He has replaced several SCR CATs this week. I saw one that had the DEF inlet nearly totally closed; there was about a 2% opening. The mechanic said that the design change of the SCR CAT is to prevent the inlet from clogging.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Mine was replaced, together with new gaskets, on Tuesday. I will be towing our TT tomorrow and Tuesday. Let's see what happens....

They also replaced my warped rotors together with new pads. Our Jeep was pretty much flawless for 23k miles. I hope this does it.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Mine hasn't been replaced yet after multiple visits to the dealer's service department. I am in contact with an attorney specializing in lemon laws. I don't understand why they cannot/will not fix my vehicle. This time it was less than 50 miles before the CEL came back on!

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

WoeIsMe,

First thing, did they replace the SCR Cat?
If not, call the Jeep Customer line and give them your VIN. This way, they can tell if your car is part of the SCR cat replacement. If your car is, print out the Service Bulletin and take it in to them. Here's a linky to the Service Bulleting/RRT:

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1806415.pdf

They cannot refuse to do an FCA RRT.

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

I happy to report that I'm finally a member of the club. The MIL code was thrown with 16K on the odometer. I'll get the work done with a bunch of other stuff. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Re: MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Put on 250 miles with the new CAT. So far, so good.....took it out for a good workout on Interstate 10 to take our trailer to the dealer and then, today another trip to pick it up.

Fingers crossed !
