Re: Mileage at delivery?

The first GC I bought had 15 miles on it, but it had a lot of problems. The next day, the dealer took it back as he found an identical one in Indiana and had it picked up and driven over, so that one had 178 miles on it when I took delivery, but everything worked properly on it. Just a PITA to do the paperwork twice.

Re: Mileage at delivery?

While we are on the subject, for those of you who have ever wondered if odometers start off with negative digits...

Taken right at the end of the assembly line... you can still see the protective plastic on the steering wheel.

The answer is a big fat no.

It doesn't matter what the number is, but when you go to title/register it, make sure that all matches. I had to retitle mine because there were two pieces of paper and the two numbers didn't match. [93 vs 92, due to a dealer swap delivery] One lousy mile and the bureaucrats in Colorado DMV bounced it.

It was just the Car Wash kid that took it for a Joy Ride to see what it could do 0-60 in. Nothing to worry about.

BMV bureaucrats are PITA. My wife and I took title jointly, but when I received the title in the mail, our last name was spelled correctly for me, but misspelled for my wife. I took it back to the BMV and they wanted $20 for a new title. I objected and they took about 45 minutes going through all of the paperwork the dealer had submitted trying to find an excuse to say it wasn't their mistake. They finally issued a new title without charge (it took two keystrokes to correct the error, one to save it and one to print it. They lost money trying to put the blame on me or the dealer. But, that's the government.

I was advised by someone (I think it was an insurance agent) years ago that it's better not to have both names on the car. You expose yourself to more liability issues, credit score issues etc. If some freak thing happens, which can, you are both hit rather than just one. This makes buying and selling much easier too.

Let's say the parking brake was broken and it rolled over some kid and you're not even there when it happens. You are BOTH liable. Why expose both?

If you need combined income to qualify for loan, then do it. Otherwise I would not do it.

It might be easier if you plan on divorcing soon.

5 at delivery fresh off the truck. No PDI. I unwrapped and prepped it myself. I test drove it 7 miles and drove it off the lot for fill up and then home.

I've got it set up that way for probate purposes. Under Ohio law, there isn't much chance of avoiding liability for a spouse in most cases anyway. Also, I think if we were going to divorce, we would have done some time ago in the 44 years we've been married.

That's a fair enough argument.
