Rule62, I hate to hear about that kind of stuff but good you got yourself an attorney to cut through the baloney. IMO, it might be easier to negotiate a new '16 since it doesn't make FCA cough up dough, but I understand if you've had enough of Jeep.

We had a turbo blow on a BMW X5 before we even got it home 3 years ago. I told them we wanted a new car, period. The dealer started making sounds about how it would be good as new after fixing the motor until I asked how long the "good as new" car would last on the new car lot with a sign on it declaring, "New but Turbo Replaced at 5mi". They gave us a new car.

Thanks man. I've read enough here and on other forums to know that trying to negotiate with a corporate complex like FCA without being represented by expert counsel, is tantamount to bringing a pillow to a gun fight. I've also got a background in Insurance and Law so I know that FCA is not paying out anything on these losses. These are all insured (whether through contractual transfer of risk like an insurance policy or through a self-insured program) losses and since my legal fees and expenses are all awarded outside of the settlement or judgement, it behooves the defendant to move through the process smartly.

Meantime, I'm staying flexible. I may consider taking an identically equipped MY16 Hemi-powered WK2 with a lifetime MAXCARE warranty and a check for my trouble. We'll see how it plays out. Either way, I own it outright so at least I'm not making interest payments on top of all this. That would drive me nuts.

Yes this is my experience and I call myself that, a beta tester. Regarding oil, good info here, thanks for that. I may go Mobil 1 ESP when I get my 2016 replacement. For my 2014, I got into the habit of checking the oil at each fillup. I'm just standing there anyway, so why not? No loss at all in 40,000 miles and it is good peace of mind to be checking all the time. Especially since we can go a loong 400-800+ miles between fillups.

Not to mention the less "engine friendly" lubricants we're required to use as discussed previously in this thread. So, arguably, this is an entirely NEW application of an existing motor design as of MY14. And yes, I was aware of this when I bought it, but considered it's positive performance reports in Europe and elsewhere as offset for the risk. In my case, I was wrong.

Likewise, that was an important factor when deciding to buy. I joined this board long before buying and liked what I was reading about the CRD. BUT the emissions system parameters are different so it was still beta testing. It was a known risk and I took it. And I got bit because it was the emissions system that failed on mine, described elsewhere on this board.

I have been otherwise happy with the JGC CRD so I'm getting another 2016 to replace my 2014. Rule62, an SRX would be nice to add to your stable with the XLR-V.

Fortunately I have a 0% loan through Chrysler, so time isn't an enemy.

It's working it's way through legal channels.

The Jeep is still at the dealer. Saturday will make 8 weeks. They FINALLY ordered the motor for it on 6/1. However, they don't expect it to arrive before the second week of September. SEPTEMBER. At that rate I wouldn't expect it to be back on the road any time before 10/1. Long after I've cashed my check, I'm sure.

As soon as it concludes I'll reveal whatever I can given any provision for discussing details. I hear that NDA's are a big part of these settlements.

Nope. Not really. Still working through the legal process, but I'm assured that all is going along well on that front. The Jeep is still in the shop. Today is day 67.

Did you get a loaner from your dealer during all this time?

Mine just blew at 22K miles. No CEL code no nothing. It rattled like crazy, then had a low oil light, then died.
Bob.

I'm sorry to hear that. That's exactly what happened to us. I'm not sure what state you're in, but I'd recommend you start researching good lemon law attorneys now. Unless there's been some kind of dramatic metamorphosis of culture with FCA's customer service philosophy, you're going to need good representation.

Best of luck to you.
