MPG better with ECO OFF?!

Running a test and this seems to be the case.

2 separate weeks with the same route driven (minor variance in when ACC was canceled due to red lights, etc)

Daily commute was 60 miles roundtrip over mostly flat ground (some hills) 60/40 hwy/city

My week with ECO ON = 23.8
OFF = 25.2

Seemed pretty interesting to me. Not to mention the ride/shifts seem considerably smoother with it turned off.

Has anyone noticed similar results?

Re: MPG better with ECO OFF?!

I've noticed the exact opposite on mine. Better with eco on.

I should also note that I don't run in eco with the sub-zero weather we've had. I prefer to keep the rpm's up a little more when it's like that and the cold weather drops the mileage regardless of what mode I'm in.

Do you have the transmission updates?

Where do I find which Transmission update I'm running and what is the most current?

Taking temperature into consideration would have been interesting.

I have the latest update on mine. I was getting better mileage with eco on even before that.

I've noticed the same but haven't actually done a comparison between both modes like you have to confirm. I only noticed because I always drive in Eco by default and my MPG's stay pretty consistent. One day about a month ago I decided to turn it off and I noticed an almost instant increase in my avg. MPG readout under my usual driving conditions. I always have that display up which is why it caught my eye. Unfortunately 99.9% of the time I forget the Eco button is even there but sounds like I may need to test this further!

That might all depend on when your Jeep was built. The dealer would be able to hook it up to the WiTech and tell you. If you take your Jeep in for an oil change, take the latest TSB for the Tranny in and have them look/update if they can. worth a shot.

I'm not saying that the update was the fix all, was just a thought if he hadn't had any of the updates.

Hmmm - interesting. I run eco on just because I'm not trying to be speed racer in a SUV. But I may have to check this out to see if I notice a difference. I keep that display up 80% of the time too - so I'll be able to tell pretty quickly.

Re: MPG better with ECO OFF?!

interesting that the WK2 diesel has an "eco" mode. that option was not available on the WK. can you guys point me to where I can read more about the eco mode on the WK2 diesel?

Definitely not pushing the car. Im using the ACC and setting it ..Shhh.. 5MPH above the speed limit.

Upon further review cold air seems to have a direct relation to worse MPGs

Re: MPG better with ECO OFF?!

I press 3 buttons when I get in the Jeep in the morning; garage door, start, eco off. I try to remember to turn it back on if I will be on the highway for a while.

Although there was some improvement after one of the TSBs, at low speeds the MDS still kicks in too soon, and subsequently too often.

I need to start to do that same process in the morning.
