Re: My 48 hour, 400 mile review...and some second guessing??

I used to own gasser pickups (no diesel options before the Ram ED) as my "tow" and daily driver. I got tired of driving it as a normal daily driver. Trying to park in tight spots you'd have to do 3-4 point turns, also the gas mileage was terrible. I'd never get 20 mpg except when doing 50 mph and cutting off my right foot (4.8 v8 flex fuel) would get the best.

Years ago I found out Jeep made a CRD version in 07-08 and I got one of those used. But for the wonky tranny gears (tranny was same from SRT8 of those years so CRD would spin 2700 RPM at 75 mph - waaaay too high). Otherwise it was an awesome vehicle and got me 24-28 mpg no matter how I drove. I then waited for it's replacement and until the ED WK2 came about.

I now can tow my enclosed trailer and get high teens to low 20s mpg, get 30+ mpg as long haul vacation, drive and park it in NYC without fear of hitting anyone or anything and do some serious off roading (did some big mudding last weekend and almost got stuck several times).

My lease ends early next year and I'm definitely getting another one - possibly go one option up and get an 75th anniv edition.

Similar story here... Ever since 2003 I've been itching for a truck that could sneak into the mid 20's reliably and even back then wondered why the truck makers wouldn't put a light duty diesel in a full size half ton. Last winter I started researching RAM 1500's because of the EcoDiesel. I was pretty much set on the Ram and was looking hard for a deal. Turned out my BMW had to go to the shop so I rented for a day...got to Enterprise and they had Rams w/ Hemis available and they gave me one for same price as the small car I rented...drove it for two days and quickly realized I don't want to drive a truck for 48K miles every year...Same reasons as you. I dont need a truck any more...I have an enclosed trailer and a small flatbed trailer so I've got cargo covered. So far I couldnt be more pleased with this Overland. Looking forward to hunting season to do some off-roading.

Re: My 48 hour, 400 mile review...and some second guessing??

34,500 miles on mine. Besides the Cat being replaced at 18k, I've had a recurring MIL related to the camshaft sensor. It required about four trips to the dealer, reflash, replaced part, reposition sensor (is that even possible? would think it goes in one way)... the MIL came back but went away on its own. Other than this I haven't had any other issues. Reading about other weird electronic issues makes me wonder if I should get the V6 JGC next spring at lease end or buy this with an extended warranty. I do enjoy the ride and mpg and have it optioned exactly the way I would want it over the long term. Lux II package on a Limited and nothing else. Was $43k in early 2014.

Are you happy with the GDE tune? Would you buy it again?

GDE delivers a better driving experience all around. Not only better tip in throttle response around town but on the highway the power is effortless especially passing. I got both regen messaging and engine brake. The only thing that's a hassle is when the dealer reflashed I have to order another GDE update for $50 plus core. This second time around I haven't gotten around to it. Waiting to see if the camshaft sensor MIL is gone. Dealer reflashed it 2x during trouble shooting. A handheld GDE box would be ideal.

It would be interesting to try GDE before buying. Is there a way to test drive GDE in a JGC?

My right foot is now calibrated to the diesel turbo lag. I'm okay ith it, and still love the CRD engine. Still, it would be interesting to try the GDE.
