New CAT Converter - Failed Emission's/State Inspection

Im curious if anyone else is experiencing this with the new CAT converter installed. I had a new CAT installed in January and last week went to get a new state inspection. I was told that it failed the inspection because of the CAT. There is no check engine light or anything to indicate a problem which would lead me to believe its "functioning" properly. Logic is telling me then that the newly designed CAT, that is supposed to fix whatever was wrong with the old one which was causing all those lovely check engine lights, doesn't pass Massachusett's emissions. So now what?!?! My dealer is telling me he has a call into the area rep to get some letter from jeep to see if this letter will be sufficient for the state to give me a inspection sticker. This will be the 4th issue with the CAT....as I see it, in 30 days the rejection sticker i was given expires and my car is illegal to drive in the state of massachusetts...would this now qualify for a lemon law? i mean the car failing inspection happened a few weeks after my year anniversary, but, my first check engine light with a CAT code happened last spring and the fix was a flash update, the second check engine light for a CAT code was a new injector and the third check engine light was the new cat this past january. Anyone elses with the new CAT fail inspection? Suggestions? Name of a good lemon law attorney?

This wasn't a dyno tailpipe test right? Just OBD emission test?

How much have you driven your vehicle since the new CAT was installed. How did they test your emissions -- with just the ODB plugin?

Re: New CAT Converter - Failed Emission's/State Inspection

More information is definitely needed. Jeeps are all 50-state legal at this point in time, which means that they meet all emissions requirements. Therefore, a new CAT on your car in Mass would meet the emissions in California or Colorado or Illinois. Something must have been up with the readiness in an OBD scan. Maybe codes were stored or weren't cleared properly. I dunno.

While inconvenient, it doesn't mess with the way your Jeep runs. Hard to call it a lemon at this point (IMHO).

Let us know when you hear more.

That is some interesting stuff. Fortunately, in CA, we're every two years for diesel inspection. So, I have another 12 months for my car to get "ready."

That said, this is bunk for some of our members. Let's hope it gets a quick resolution by FCA.

The new CAT was installed in January. I believe I've driven a couple thousand miles if not more. I will post what happens.

I have had repeated check engine lights the last 4 weeks. Now they are keeping it a week and replacing the catalytic converter. Sounds like a problem just like yours. I'll watch this forum to track your experience and share mine. I am driving a 2014 Diesel Grand Cherokee. 14,000 miles

Krspike, you can find more info about the CAT issues here if you need, almost like a support group!

MIL & P20EE again & again & again...

Yes, it was. MA is an OBD emissions state. Any diesel manufactured after 2001 will be OBD tested. The state requires at most one readiness monitor to fail which is probably why you failed your test (you probably have the same two failed readiness monitors as I do).

Re: New CAT Converter - Failed Emission's/State Inspection

When did you go back for a second test to see if it cleared? How many times can you keep going back to see if it clears? I'm just wondering if I go back for a second and I'm not allowed to go for a third I want to make sure I leave enough time that I can still drive it before my 60 days is up so I have enough time for jeep to get me a new car.
