Re: New Check Engine Light

DEF injection controls NOX Output. Have you checked to make sure your DEF injector isn't cracked? We now know that the injector isn't protected and can be damaged by road debris, snow, off roading, even deep water.

Re: New Check Engine Light

Light came on during a sunny drive home church.

I did add new def (2.5g) on Friday and filled up with diesel Saturday.

I'll call the dealer in the morning.

Was the fluid API Certified and have an ISO 22241 standard? If not then it was the wrong DEF fluid. Also do not overfill the tank as well as it needs expansion from heat (does not have a breather vent on the tank).

Re: New Check Engine Light

I think that the new DEF might be outdated or the sensor may be defective. All of the DEF containers have a numerical date code that gives the production date to give you some indication of the remaining life if it was stored at moderate temps.
Also, wouldn't the DEF tank require some sort of a pressure-vacuum relief system or valve to allow the liquid to be pumped?

Re: New Check Engine Light

Expired DEF can show that message (sensor detects effectiveness)

Re: New Check Engine Light

I'm betting sensor. I got the same error almost exactly a month ago and cleared the code.

The gauge showed 1/3 tank of DEF when I added 2.5g of 'new looking' DEF in the Wal-Mart parking lot. I didn't check date, but the packaging looked brand new.

It then showed 3/4 tank full.

Now it's showing totally full and giving the code.

Product added was Peak branded Blue DEF
"BlueDEF® meets ISO Standards 22241 for purity and composition and is an American Petroleum Institute (API) certified DEF."

Re: New Check Engine Light

Dealer says it was a computer flash update (as well as transmission controller, stereo amplifier, limited slip controller, and climate control updates)

We shall see.

Re: New Check Engine Light

Today I walked out of the house hit the remote start mine shut off.

I got in hit the start button and my error message "service DEF System see dealer".

I had 3/4 of a tank of DEF ! I hooked up my code reader my error code says

P20E9 Reductant pressure to high.

Just happens I already have an appointment for the dealer because 2 days ago I got another message on the sirusxm that said " check antenna see dealer for service". They had ordered parts for TSB on the antenna.

I have had my JGC for 6 months with no problems up till 2 days ago.

I hope this is not the start of things starting to go bad.

I just called my dealer and spoke to the service mgr who happens to be my neighbor he said " we get ambulances and other vehicles all the time with that message usually there is nothing wrong we just reset the code"

I am not sure I like the sound of that just reset the code, obviously there is some kind of problem somewhere that is cause vehicles to throw similar codes all having to do with the stupid smog crap attached to our USA vehicles.

You guys from Aus do not have all the DPF,DEF systems is that correct?

I will report back their findings.

I was hoping to go 1 year with no problems and then was going to do deletes.

This is how the problems started with my 12 2500 cummins 12k on it (last year before DEF),O2 sensors going bad, 38 days in the shop in 14 months before I got rid of it.

My dealer got me out of the 2500 and into the Jeep with out a big hit.

Re: New Check Engine Light

Anyone with MIL on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Diesel should familiarize yourself with this TSB

It Corrects a lot of false codes being thrown. This is a PCM update.

Oooh - that's a good one. Mine has been in the shop for over a week due to various codes thrown related to the reductant and DPF. I've been waiting for a new sensor, but will see if they've tried this one.

Thanks Willx!
