I have wondered why anyone would take in their vehicle for a "fix" that degrades performance and fuel economy. In fact, I'm kind of hoping that a lot of nice, well kept, used VW diesels hit the market from owners disgusted by the fix. This would allow me to buy one inexpensively and load the previous ECU "fiasco" firmware that has good performance/economy.

Because everyone knows that will happen. It's basically what the GDE tune does for an EcoDiesel.

Re: New Jeep owner and I have some questions

Owners do not have a choice. The bogus software will have to be removed and certified so at next emission testing. In Texas, if you do not pass annual inspection, you cannot get registration/tag update.

It is a tough spot, no dealer will take them as trade. Many people are filing suit. I may do the same.

Ah, that's a bummer for those who live in emissions certification states; my state used to require them but later decided better. Of course, you could always just get a spare ECU with the good firmware on it (the GDE tune approach) or flash the "fixed" firmware before the emissions test and then reflash with the good version when you get home.

Re: New Jeep owner and I have some questions

FYI - Most of Texas does NOT have emissions testing. It is only required in those "polluting" metropolitan areas !

The major issue for any owner, with system and/or hardware changes to their diesel, is that of warranty claims.
