New owner several questions/comments:

I have clicked through a lot of threads but still have some questions/comments.

First of I would like to start off by saying I am a diesel tuner by trade (EFIlive for Duramax/Cummins), so my knowledge on diesel engines is extensive to say the least. Now my questions:

Has anybody ran Rotella T6 synthetic in their Jeep? That oil is WAY cheaper than what Jeep suggests, but its honestly a better oil.

Anybody use any real time monitoring devices like an Edge Insight/banks or anything of that nature? Does the ECM allow real time monitoring of EGT/Boost/ECT/and duty cycle?

I am in contact with TS performance about their tuner for our Jeeps. Once I hear something back I will let you know. I am an authorized dealer for TS performance and will be more than willing to help anybody out when it comes to getting one (I'll pick one up the second they confirm it works with the Jeep, as it works with the 3.0 from the Dodge). TS performance has been tuning in the US longer than most of these tuning boxes combined.

Anybody running the afe intake have a video of it? Trying to gauge how loud it will be.

Thanks in advance,

-Justin

Re: New owner several questions/comments:

The ODB2 interface allows realtime monitoring. Many of us use a Bluetooth adapter and Torque app in an Android device. EGT and CAT temps, Boost, and most other engine management data points are available. I'm not sure if injector duty cycle is one if them.

You might want to be prepared to be bombarded with the following questions:

1. Will your tuner offer a DPF/DEF/CAT delete tune?

2. Will your tuner be able to command higher hydraulic pressures in the ZF 8 speed tranny to increase durability with a hot tune?

3. Will the tuner require the ECU removal and shipping?

4. Will they reflash if overwritten by dealer service?

5. Can it be returned to stock? Is it detectable?

Etc, etc....

well I am thinking of diving into this ECM. I can Crack the files with no issue... just have to come up with a flashing solution. cracking the TCM may be the harder task.

And the TS tuner is an in line tuner and doesn't flash the ecm. they are already available for the previous jeep 3.0

Re: New owner several questions/comments:

As far as we've heard hear, the ECM and TCM haven't been cracked yet. The only tunes available so far require pulling the ECM...not desirable in my case. If there is ever a tuner box that sets the ECM and TCM values via ODB2, they'll get my money. The tranny on the '14 Diesel really needs more pressure and a stiffer shift at higher torques.

Re: New owner several questions/comments:

Note that major diesel oils, such as Delvac1 and Rotella T6 are not spec'd by Chrysler. At the moment, only two major oil companies have products (specifically, Mobil1 ESP and Pennzoil Ultra Euro L) that meet Chrysler MS-11106 specs. So why risk it during the warranty period?

About cost of parts etc., a standing joke about BMW motorcycle owners is that the cheapest thing on the bike is the owner !

Yeah! Yeah! I'm a BMW motorcycle owner....but I never cheap on tires, lubricants and parts !

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if T6 exceeds every standard set by Chrysler. I bet T6 even improves MPG when used as well (very marginal gains). I have always hated pennzoil products, so I guess I'll use mobil 1.

Re: New owner several questions/comments:

I have used Rotella both syn and dino on my Super Duty for 120K miles before selling it. It works well in older diesel engines but I seriously doubt anyone is going to risk warranty denial using anything but the two spec'ed oils. I won't and since those are ultra low ash oils pretty certain that is the only way they can run extended oil change intervals. I do know some of the OZ guys have run other that the US spec'ed oils with good success.
I do hope we can get DEF delete but I am waiting until I hit the 100K miles mark before making any real mods to my rig (I say that now but in a year who knows).
I used Super Chips tuning which improved my 7.3 all around and no reason once the ECM is known that this can't be done. Regarding cracking the ZF trans many in the BMW tuning world have done this years ago with the 6 spds so there is knowledge out there.
Does seem to me that this engine is not stressed much at the current hp and torque levels it outputs. Banks Engineering certainly proved that almost a year ago...
