Yeah, Jeep were suggesting it was because the ECU was trying to go into regen but couldn't. I'm guessing an aborted attempt to regen could result in a shudder, it is post injecting fuel and closing the EGR valve, then aborting.....?

New to the forum. My 2014 diesel has the fish bite as well. Star case was issued about 1 week ago. They have now contacted me to inform me that they ordered a new valve body. Hopefully that will fix the problem. I'll update this post once it's confirmed one way or another.

Let me guess....it does it nearly every time you first start the vehicle and shift through all gears. It happens in 5-6, 6-7, 7-8 shifts. It shudders more if going up a hill at 2400 rpm or less (more torque at low rpm = more shudder). Downshifting stops it but shifting higher may shudder in the next gear. Once each gear has been engaged one time, the problem is gone...until you shutdown and then drive it again after 20-30 minutes.

Mine does this and I paddle downshift then upshift at 2500 rpm when it occurs. It may not occur on flat ground under light throttle but more often now it does.

I have a theory that the valvebody is losing prime and has air bubbles that purge with use. The shudder is the valve body pressurw oscillating due to unstable fluud dynamics from air entrapement. IMO a new valve body is required is to fix it.

My second theory is that the torque converter pulse width modulation is causing the shudder. It uses PWM to create a ramped engagement of the lockup clutch. This is supposed to soften the engagement but it may cause the clutch to chatter and feel like pulses of torque. Probably a replacement needed there.

Based on your report that all the latest flashes and a relearn didn't fix it, I have a feeling that a mechanical repair is needed. I forced a relearn by removing fuse F60 for 30 minutes. It helped but the fishbites came back after a few weeks.

I think a Star case needs to be opened so we can have a documented fix and dealers won't be prone to "experiment" on our vehicles and keep them in the shop for weeks. There are some documented repairs on furum member's transmissions where a valve body swap fixed these issues.

I've had the same shuddering as everyone else. Showed up after ~2k miles. Happens only 1-2 times a week at most. Ours seems to do it after accelerating onto the freeway and letting off the throttle. Lasts 2-10 seconds. Feels like the engine dropped a cylinder. Whole vehicle shudders.

Vegas,

Let us know If the valvebody fixes it. Also, it would be nice to have your Star case number when the rest of us take ours in for service.

Thanks!

Re: new to forum with 2014 GC eco diesel that has an issue

Sorry for not being a religious member to the forum, but I've had this issue as well. I posted several months ago and thought they had it figured out. The dealership and service manager that I had were both fantastic and I'm actually pretty impressed with Chrysler in the way they handled the situation. After having the "computer" (forgive me for lack of proper terminology), the valve body replaced and finally the entire transmission and torque converter, on 3 visits, the shudder returned. Fortunately in Florida the Lemon law is very consumer friendly and Chrysler has agreed to provide a new replacement vehicle for me. I could have opted for a buy back but they take a percentage off for your mileage and I wasn't willing to lose $3-4k. I strongly considered jumping over to a 4runner, but think I'll try a gas guzzler this time and hope that its unique to just the diesels. I have a big soft spot for the diesel rumble, it's just I think that they still have to iron out a few more wrinkles before these are ready for prime time. Any thoughts?

Re: new to forum with 2014 GC eco diesel that has an issue

The same VM Motori diesel engine has been used in the GC since 2011 in Australia the 8 speed trans was new last year when the MY14 WK2 was released.

Most bugs have been sorted but these engine and trans have quite a bit of software that is constantly being massaged. The dealers are struggling with all this new technology. Some actually have no idea .

Pretty certain the V8's use the same 8 speed as the diesel's but the V6's have a different model of the ZF 8 Speed.

I'm pretty sure the first shuddering was reported by Hemi owners. Its a ZF/Chrysler hardware and software issue.

Does anyone know if the shudder is solely with 4x4 models?

Re: new to forum with 2014 GC eco diesel that has an issue

I'm bringing my in jeep next monday. I've documented every time it has happened (gear, speed, rpm) since the last shop visit.

I hope they can get this situation figured out. It doesn't seem like a one off problem.

Thank you for the responses and help.

Re: new to forum with 2014 GC eco diesel that has an issue

Got the jeep back from the dealer on Friday. They did tsb #18-018-14 for the shudder. Haven't driven enough to see if it made a difference. I'll post the results after a few days of driving. They also flashed the HVAC system and as I sit here writing this, the fan speed is up and down up and down up and down. Crazy!

My jeep has been in the shop for a week now. The dealer is in contact with Chrysler. I'll post a follow up and detail the work they did. Hope it fixes the problem.

Re: new to forum with 2014 GC eco diesel that has an issue

Last week, the CEL came on. On my way to the dealer the next morning to find out what tripped it, the shuddering was horrendous at all speeds. At one point, I had to pull over, stop the vehicle, let it completely shut down, start it back up. It somewhat helped, but I pretty much gunned it the rest of the way to the dealer.

They ended up applying 5 ECU updates. I don't have the exact references #'s with me, but one was for the erroneous CEL issue, shifting and HVAC. Knock on wood, the shuddering is gone.
