New to this forum not new to forums anyway I'm looking into buying a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited ecodiesel that is a factory buy back. Disclosure states it was purchased back for Adaptive cruise control not working and airbag light on. Issues have been fixed. I work for a Jeep dealer as a salesman. Guys in service are saying it's a solid vehicle (it's as a different dealer) other salesmen are saying stay far away. Input from you guys? I do have the service history it did have the cat replaced 20xxx miles then looks like they where chasing a problem multiple times replacing the Adaptive cruise eye. Though disclosure states it just needed to be reaimed. What do yall think? It's has all the right options for me and right color and right price.
Late build (May-June) 2014's have way less problems than the early builds. Solid vehicle overall, the engine needs to be driven hard. Get a GDE tune and never worry about problems again. 72,000 miles on my June build 2014 - fantastic vehicle.
From what I've researched each state has different buyback laws that's why I'm still interested as the mere fact it may have been at a incompetent dealer who couldn't fix the issue
We had the same two issues with our February 2014 build plus two more.
1. Front ACC sensor problem. They re-aimed, no problems since.
2. Replaced the DPF Cat via the recall.
3. Front brake rotors warped at 20k. Replaced rotors and pads. No problems since.
4. QL wouldn't go into ORA1 and ORA2 at 28k. Pump replaced. No problems since.
We now have 34000+ miles on it, 18k towing a TT and it runs really well without any issues and getting great gas mileage. Everything still tight.
Still under factory warranty but I did purchase the Mopar extended warranty.
Thank you for this so the cat has been replaced. Once this has 52k miles on it it was purchased back with 51k miles looking at history report the Adaptive cruise control was an issue 3 time the air bag light on once the cat was replaced with 27k miles
I'm thinking under the circumstances it should be a steal price wise. Can you get an extended warranty? If so, I'd consider it. The issues it had aren't serious enough to be debilitating-more annoying.
I'm surprised at how many people would go for this deal.
You wouldnt catch me anywhere near a buyback or a salvage title.
I don't care what kind of warranty they throw at me it's not going to be worth the breakdowns and time wasted.
Does that mean you bought it?
I have an early 14 and with the exception of the cat replacement nothing else. I have not gone to the dealership to have them do the shifter replacement complete with many software updates and some hardware simply because at 45K miles I don't want anything screwed up. I get 20 mpg towing and an honest 28-30 on the hiway.
I love this ride and would not want anything else that was a diesel which is a must for me.
I think since you are at a dealership issues with what is going to break will get a lot more attention quicker than the rest of us and should be a good ride.
Luck of the draw my 2007 BMW was bullletproof for a number of years hit 54K miles and many things failed and needed replaced. I got past that and it is bulletproof again.
Would I buy another JGC diesel? Absolutely one of the best vehicles I have ever owned and I keep mine for a long time 10-12 years on average...
Yes in fact I bought it I drove it for an hour tested the cruise control and it was perfect checked other things out I take delivery Monday it's black forest green and beige interior its loaded advanced tech luxury group ii
Well I bought it and drove it home the 2 hours and about an hour and 20 minutes into the drive check engine light clicks on P1228 not exactly what I want to see when I just purchased it!
Did you get an extended warranty and does the extended warranty cover the emissions equipment (not all do)? Maybe you can still ask for that. Honestly I would not have bought a buyback without one. Might as well pay a bit now for future repairs which maybe likely. I did this with a used diesel WK ('07 model) and came out way ahead as it had several issues (alternator, axle, ball joint, struts, turbo and DPF - a total of $8k in repairs and the extended warranty was $2,300).
Not sure it will take care of it, but i'd check with the guys at Green Diesel Engineering. If you have to spend money on it, I'd tune it instead if it'll also make the code go away.
That code is on a TSB that requires a reflash, so I gave him the linky and advised him to let his dealership know. FYI - he actually works at the Jeep dealership:thumbsup:.
So from what I can tell from these jeeps 95% of the problems are with the emissions systems so yes a GDE a removal of the Egr and rip the exhaust out with a new one seems to fix most of the issues.... Glad for living in Wisconsin where emissions are not existent. I appreciate the help. I'm sure my service department will get it figured out. We are not a small dealer in fact it was on the lift today we shall see tomorrow what he figured out
Nice and clean underneath for a "cheesehead mobile" that has seen a couple of winters !!
Boy! Those Cowboys did a number on the Packers didn't they!
Where in WI are you located? We retired down to Texas from Wheaton, IL and most definitely destroyed a few brain cells in WI. Especially the old Playboy Club in Lake Geneva and Karl Ratzch's in Milwaukee not to mention the Brat Stop in Kenosha!!!
Lol Nordic. Yes I decided to be PG. I'm getting the jeep back today they cleaned the sensor want me to drive it around and see if the problem happens again
Good luck to you, Drkvampire2001. I am confident the gremlins can be worked out.
Just before my 2014 was replaced, it was fixed at my local dealer in San Jose CA. The service advisor, because I'd been in several times for P20EE, put his best diesel tech on it. Then, while the 2016 replacement vehicle was inbound to me (see the link in my signature), I took the 2014 on a 8,000+ mile road trip through 9 western states. It was completely trouble free.
Ask your dealer to put their best diesel tech(s) on yours. It may help. In the end I took ownership of the 2016 replacement, but someone is going to get a rock solid 2014 whose gremlins have all been exorcised, at a dirt cheap price because of the recall. Mine was white. In fact, my avatar shows the 2014 from that road trip.
As with Echo7Tango, our local dealership has a couple of very experienced Diesel tech's on staff. After my P20EE SCR cat replacement, I've had zero issues since and am now at 34k miles:thumbsup:.
