Re: Oil Drain Plug Washer

My 2014 Turbo diesel has 93,000 miles on it and I have done all the oil changes (9 times). I re-used the rubber gasket on the oil drain plug 7 of those times. I bought the same copper gasket a couple of oil changes in and I just wasn't sure about how it would stand up.

Nevertheless, the rubber gasket still looks to be in fine shape but I went to a low profile Fumoto and it has done great so far.

I just changed the oil & filter today and the red O-ring came off the oil plug. In the past it always stayed on the oil plug. Looked fine to me so I reused it. Torqued the plug to 25 ft.lbs.

Re: Oil Drain Plug Washer

If you get the copper crush washers you can anneal them and reuse them time and time again.
To anneal the washer I make a large loop of wire with the washer in it like a necklace. I then use a blow torch and evenly heat it up until it glows red. I then dip the washer in a cup of water and voila....its usable again.

Re: Oil Drain Plug Washer

anyone used the f-106 fumoto on a diesel? I love these valves, have had one on my f150 for 3 years no problems but that one is well clear of any rocks offroad

this f-106 is the one with no 'nipple' at all, will it still hang low enough to potentially get snagged?

I have it on mine. No issues whatsoever. I have the skid plate so that might give me a little more coverage, but I've been off roading and never had a problem with it getting snagged or smashed off.

Here's some photos of mine installed. First, a view so you can see it and, second, a from the point of view of a rock or stick.
