Re: Oil filter availability

Looks like aFe has an oil filter, half the price of the dealer's one. I trust that company a bit more than some unknown eBay store.

Good to see another filter option come up, don't think aFe would be the first place I would look for an oil filter. I'm sure aFe doesn't make that filter, most companies go through a main manufacture, have the filter built to their specs, for example K&N, Royal Purple, Mobil1, STP etc. are all made by Champion Laboratories, not all of the same quality. Most likely we'll see this aFe filter come up under other names hopefully.

aFe has lot more to loose than some fly by night ebay outfit selling backdoor filters from Korea.

Re: Oil filter availability

A warning to all on here......

While you are under warranty, I suggest you purchase, and keep receipts for, FCA recommended oils and MOPAR filters. Should anything happen to your motor, such documentation will definitely assist with any warranty claims....DAMHIK!

Buying aftermarket "no-name" filters, IMHO, is a risky proposition. There is a saying about BMW motorcycle owners; The cheapest thing on the bike is the owner !

Not me though, I just happen to be someone that buys genuine or OEM parts. I had an experience with Toyota concerning a part failure and genuine parts and oils etc.....fortunately, my documentation saved me a lot of aggravation and a potentially expensive headache!

Re: Oil filter availability

That's why I said "let us know what you think of the filter and the quality" It's not about being cheap, Mopar are gouging the consumer for these filters. This Mopar filter is a paper filter just like any other paper filter made by any filter manufacturer. The Mopar ones say "made in wonderful china" right on the bottom of the box. Who's to say they are any better quality. The ones on ebay have been measured and used and tested by mopar ecodiesel. He has a video on youtube about these filters. They look good so far. I would prefer a quality company like Baldwin or Wix, but can't get them as of yet. Soon I hope.

Thank you. You've summed up the purpose of this thread I've reached out to MoparEcoDiesel to ask his opinion. I imagine he's likely gone through several of them by now! My pack of 3 has been shipped, and I'll post pack with his response.

Re: Oil filter availability

I found this follow-up video on the oil filter:

https://youtu.be/DUvj0WZ9MJE?t=5m30s

I think Sean gets a little eccentric in this video, but I think these filters will be just fine. I'll post some pictures when mine arrive.

Re: Oil filter availability

Is Chrysler locking up the rights to make this filter aftermarket? Why wouldn't we be getting these yet from our local parts stores?
