Oil for Winter

Hello all,

I am moving up from Dallas to Denver next weekend. Is there a recommended oil for the winter for this diesel?

Never had a diesel that was further north than dallas so diesel and winter is new to me.

Re: Oil for Winter

If your using either the recommended Pennzoil or Mobil 1 - your perfectly fine, in any temperature variance you would find in the lower 48.

Don't forget to change to the winter air in the tires.

Re: Oil for Winter

oh man, you guys are a hoot! To the OP- just stick to the manufacturer's recommended oil. Good to go for any temps here.

Heh, so now when I mention using winter diesel and the precipitous drop in fuel economy that will cause he'll think that's a prank too.

Winter diesel, Alpine diesel or Arctic diesel?

Re: Oil for Winter

Poor guy, he's never going to post again! You guys are cruel!

I have my winter oil in. I installed it back in July just in case. ;-)

Seriously, don't worry about your oil, but do invest in some good winter tires.

Re: Oil for Winter

The blinker fluid picture was in jest - the question about the grade of diesel is legitimate.

Oil for Winter

The owners manual has some info about what grade ultra low sulfur diesel to use. If I remember right grade 2 is for temps down to 20f. Winter grade is a mix of grade 2 and grade 1. And pure grade 1 is for -20f or less.... But check the manual to be sure!

Just to clarify, talking about fuel, not engine oil :-)
