Since shifter recall software was installed, I am on track for the oil life to be halved according to the meter in the vehicle. It used to measure out 10k miles exactly. Now I have 61% left after just 1,800 miles.
Other possible reasons for this? I did notice one other report of this in an mpg thread, too. Others experiencing it?
Yes other possible reasons for this are that 10,000 miles is just too long to run engine oil. Over the road trucks....maybe? I think 7,500 would be at the very top of the threshold when it comes to our start and stop lifestyles.
Jeep seem to use many factors in oil life calculation. It also checks engine power output and temperature. I did some towing during summer and noticed the oil usage drop dramatically. Non towing was getting 10 000 km and 12 months.
My results of having done this multiple times shows that even TBN is high which means this oil has life well beyond 10k miles. Big change from my Super Duty which was a hard 5k miles.
The change from 5w30 to 40 for pro ported main bearing wear being accelerated also seems odd.
I hope we get some clarity on this from FCA given I will be at 50k miles before the end of the year on 5w30...
I got an oil change at the same time as the recall. The first 150 miles doing City driving the % dropped twice as fast as normal. But after a 600 mile run on Saturday, it seemed to average back out to 10k per change. It may just be a bit smarter to factor in highway driving vs. city driving than it did before. Previously it was 1% per 100mi like clockwork. I figured it was just a calculation based on mileage since reset and that it didn't really do anything. Maybe now the algorithm is more sophisticated.
I also noticed that the cruise control now tells you the exact MPH it is set at and each + or - is 1 MPH. So they definitely changed some software and I appreciate them still making improvements like that.

No, all '14's have always used a sophisticated algorithm based on engine coolant/oil temps, outside temps, start/stop cycles, distance driven, etc. That's one reason why the oil life monitor is a good "go by" on when to change.
All I mean is everyone's driving habits are different. People that only drive in town shouldn't drive that far between changes. If you were a salesman you might be just fine.
I'm just asking if others have seen this change in the calculation since latest software upgrades. Mine previously was about double the 1K=10% rule for the first 1,000 miles then settled down and paced it self for a 10K oil change. It didn't matter how I drove, towed or anything else.
With the latest change, it's on track for a 5K oil change.
It wasn't how I thought it work when I first bought it, but when I asked that question on here I was shouted down with, "what do you expect it to do?"
On the other note, my cruise has operated as you describe since day 1. No change with this software.
Given how terrible my first dealer was, I would not be surprised if they never flashed the software previously despite telling me they did so. While the +/- buttons did adjust the speed 1 MPH, it never showed that on my display from the day I took it home until I got the recall done last week. Glad to know I have another reason never to go back to that place.
Anyway, on the original topic, I understand it is supposed to take those things into account when calculating the oil life, but previously for me, it ticked down 1% point exactly every 100 mi on the mileage since reset counter. Again, wouldn't be surprising if I had some really old version of the software doing some buggy crap instead of what its designed to do. But that's just my experience.

Mine is the same 1% every 100km. Doesn't matter if I am highway driving, city driving or towing a heavy van. Always thought it is a waste of time.
Will be interest to see what happens when a get the update done.
What ticks me off is that the mfg doesn't tell the dealers exactly what they are changing. The dealer has to go by the vague description on the recall paperwork which is useless. I would like to know exactly what they are changing and why. I am going to wait for a while before I change anymore programing. I think I can figure out if I am in park.
And I am defiantly going to go to 5w 40 oil.

My Oil Monitor went nutso a couple of times after I did oil changes. The mileage to change dropped precipitously, showing after 10 miles 10 percent used LOL!
I just did another reset after I noticed it and it went back to normal:thumbsup:.
