Oil Life Indicator Issue - Not Fixed by TSB?

Maybe I'm jumping the gun and I need to wait a couple hundred miles... But I'm 120 miles into a new oil change after having the TSB applied to correct the oil life indicator issue... And it appears to still be an issue.

4% down after 122 miles. By my calc that puts me at 3000 miles. What do you think, still a problem or am i jumping the gun?

4% of a 10k mile interval is ~ 400 miles (96% oil life)

At 120 miles you should be at 1% used (99% oil life). However it also depends on what you did in those 120 miles (if you've been doing a lot of stop and go traffic crawling along or towing something heavy so the engine's been working hard then the computer might lower the oil life expectancy.

Trying to use 100 miles as a check point is definitely jumping the gun. If the results were linear we wouldn't need the minder system.

See what it looks like at three thousand miles.

And, if the minder results don't make sense, change your oil at the intervals you would use if you didn't have a minder system. Let common sense prevail.

I agree with this assessment. Too early, and we have NO IDEA how those 100 miles have been driven. Lots of stops/starts, for example might make it drop quickly.

Give it a few thousand like bill_de says and check in again then.

If you changed our oil without resetting the indicator... would the sensors sense it or know thre is newer oil in it? Is there anything is the system that lets the computer sense or sample the oil and prolong its life or is it strictly a mileage life countdown?

There are supposed to be a few factors that go into the computation. The one that seems pretty common is revolutions of the crankshaft, rather than mileage. Base on that one item alone, driving in sport mode would call for more frequent oil changes because it delays upshifting.

Maybe somebody actually knows what else is used. I could guess, but I would rather hear some facts on the issue.

Re: Oil Life Indicator Issue - Not Fixed by TSB?

Thanks all. I'll cool my jets and see how it is after a couple thousand. I've definitely had city traffic driving for most of that distance (now 200 miles and 5% down).
