Re: Oil Life Re-Set

Now I'm really confused. Guess I will try somewhere between 1-10 presses and see what happens!

Re: Oil Life Re-Set

Exactly. I'd say go with 3 and if that doesn't work try 5.

Who knows? Manual says 3 and that seems to work for many, might have for me, I just went straight to 5. I think there's a little "art" to Jeep science.

Re: Oil Life Re-Set

Mine would not reset. I finally figure out that I needed to pump it 4 times, and not 3. Hope this helps.

Re: Oil Life Re-Set

my book says get to the oil life gauge, and hold the OK button on the wheel for 2 seconds and it will reset. NOPE, so I tried the pedal because my wrangler, last grand cherokee, and 2 Rams have all been press the pedal 3 times. NOPE. I love electronics on vehicles.
So I know the mileage it was changed, and I'm just going to change it every 4500-5k miles.
I also was quoted at about 145 for an oil change. I can get all the stuff from my parts guy who supplies our shop for a bunch cheaper and change myself.

Re: Oil Life Re-Set

Either someone at Jeep has a good sense of humor, or the same guy wrote code that worked on Windows Vista, but I finally got the thing reset. Trouble is I don't know what worked. Tried two presses of the OK button, pumped the gas pedal 3,4 then 5 times and when I looked again, it was showing 100% oil life. I think maybe you have to be facing east, with the wind coming from the south when you try resetting it.

I'm hoping someone can tell us something definitive, but I've seen rumors floating around these parts that say the above is a bad idea. These rumors say that the DPF regen system needs to know the status of the oil and goes by the life left to get that information. If you don't ever reset it, it (whatever IT is) thinks you have "old" oil and that somehow negatively affects regen.

Can anyone confirm that rumor? Seems sketchy to me, but I certainly don't have any inside information. To be safe, if no one can confirm or deny, I'd think it best to find a way to reset. Face East, touch your toes while pumping the accelerator 5 times and holding the OK button with EVIC on the oil life screen while flippin' it the bird. Gotta work.

You forgot the last and most important step - place your right index finger in your left ear whilst doing all of the above, at exactly the same time!
