Overland without the air suspension

Hey guys

Just wondering if the Jeep was available in Overland trim with the 3.0 without the air suspension? also how popular is this option?

Some people see it as a luxury I see it as $$ to repair down the road.

Re: Overland without the air suspension

I don't think you can get it w/o air suspension.

If you are in the states check some of the threads around extended warranties. Pretty cheap security for something like this (and the diesel engine itself) down the road.

Re: Overland without the air suspension

No way to delete the Air Suspension and it's something like $1700 a shock. One of the many reasons I got the longest warranty available.

The only way to get the 3L EcoDiesel without air ride/Quadalift suspension is to order a limited, WITHOUT the luxury II package.

Re: Overland without the air suspension

And hence my dilema,

In Canada (where im from eh) Jeep in their infinite wisdom does not sell the Limited in the diesel. Up here its only on the Overland and Summit.

I could import from the US, but our dollar has taken a 20% hit over the last year. So a 35k used limited is 44k CDN Grrrrrrr

Re: Overland without the air suspension

I think it's actually ORA2 that puts air suspension in the Limited (not that it matters if you can't get a diesel Limited in Canada). In the US you hit the same problem if you want the Overland or Summit, or if you want the rear limited slip differential in the Limited. And I think the towing package gives you load-leveling shocks in back, which probably use a similar system and are probably also expensive to repair/replace.

I don't know if you can swap normal shocks in to the Grand Cherokee. I've heard that some of the GM SUVs work fine that way, you just get a warning light about the disconnected system. I don't know if anybody has tried that with the Jeep.

Re: Overland without the air suspension

the air suspension has been out since the 2011 models. has anyone heard of problems yet? I doubt they would have come about in this forum since the ecoDiesel is 2014+

There were some problems reported early on. They made some improvements in MY14.

A while back there was a poll on here (which might still be around) and the majority, by a pretty good margin IIRC, were trouble free.

The reason they had gotten some bad press wasn't the frequency of problems. Finding a dealer that knew how to diagnose the problem ... that was/is an issue.

Re: Overland without the air suspension

I feel your pain. The air suspension will likely be an issue down the line and the best warranty in the US gets us 8 years and 120k miles. I think the problems will surface just after this period. I've friends with problems in Range Rovers, X5 and Mercedes and I can't imagine more than a couple of tier 3 suppliers making this stuff. So yeah I got the Lux II pkg and skipped the air lift suspension.

Unless they changed it for 2015, Offroad 2 gives the air suspension, not luxury 2.

I have a 2014 Limited diesel with Luxury 2, Offroad 1 so I don't have the air suspension.

I mis-spoke, and I apologize for it - my previous statement should of been indicative of Off-Road II package, and not the LUX II package as I erroneously stated. If memory serves however, you could get the Off-road II WITHOUT quadralift, but only in model year 2011.
