P0087 low fuel rail pressure

Have had this code twice in 1 month. Vehicle will start and run very roughly with no power or throttle then die. Crank it again and it starts and runs fine but CEL comes on and code thrown. Changing fuel filters today, easy 1st try fix.... 23K miles.
Seems to happen more predictably after vehicle sets 3-4 days with no activity, tank is not low on fuel when happens.. Dealer has no idea right off the top....

Any other simple ideas/opinions?

Re: P0087 low fuel rail pressure

when you say tank is not low on fuel, is it at least 1/2 full?
your problem can happen when fuel in tank <1/2 and one of the two tank fuel pumps is faulty
one pump moves fuel from one tank to the other (this went out on me and caused similar problems), second pump pushes fuel to the High Pressure fuel pump
test is to have at least 1/2 tank full, this bypasses the tank to tank pump and everything functions normally

Re: P0087 low fuel rail pressure

When it happened yesterday, it was 1/4 full ....but the 1st time it was over 1/2 ,but sat 5 days at an airport parking lot. Are you saying it could be a lift pump type of issue?
Traditionally I don't let it get below 1/2 full but in a perfect world that shouldn't matter??
