P20EE on 15 and 16 GC

Hello, I am planning to close the deal on 16 GC Overland Eco Diesel, and I am somewhat concerned about the P20EE error that many of 14ers received. Did anyone noticed the similar cat or exhaust related failures on 2015 or 2016(probably too new) models? How frequently are you facing this problem, if at all.

I am kind of concerned after reading some posts/threads by rubberjeep.

Second concern is high failure rate of QL. Given, Diesel owners can only get 8yrs or 125K Maxcare. I usually drive 25K in a year, so my maintenance contract will be over in 5 yrs. Unless, I understood wrong, and the Maxcare kicks in after 36months or 60K miles, to give additional 8 yrs/125k miles.

Thank for your help!

Re: P20EE on 15 and 16 GC

Have not heard about many problems with the QL. As far as the CAT, there was a redesigned CAT that is used now. The 14's had a different CAT. Nave not heard of issues with the 15 or 16's.

Re: P20EE on 15 and 16 GC

Subscribed. My Lemon Law 2016 replacement just arrived at the dealership, replacing the 2014 because of P20EE. I haven't taken ownership of it yet. Soon though, hopefully very soon.

I haven't heard of many P20EEs with the '15s and '16s, and let's hope it stays that way.

Congrats. I was in a similar situation, and just got my 2016 two days ago. I came out with a sweet deal. In the end, I only had to pay the difference between a 2014 and a 2016. The 14 was 2 years old, and had 40,000 miles. Needed new brakes and new tires. I only had to pay $1,065 for the new one. That included taxes. Did not have to get a lawyer, but took 4 months of numerous phone calls and persistence. Very happy with the new ride. The 16's have a few small features that are nice updates.

Glad FCA is standing behind it. How many miles did you had on your lemon, and any QL issues?

Congrats to you, too, Shannon. If I'm ever near Lakeville I will look you up. And if you're ever near San Francisco, ping me. We can compare notes.

No QL issues at all, and I used the QL a lot. I do a fair amount of off-roading. I am a big fan of the QL, it is convenient being able to dial in the extra clearance on the fly, without having a permanently raised rig.

My rig had 3,300 miles on it when the P20EE first appeared. Those are the miles I will pay for, for California's required Mileage Usage Fee. My rig has 39,000 on it now.

Funny thing, in the last 8,000 miles my rig has been problem free. I hope it stays that way, for its next owner.

Re: P20EE on 15 and 16 GC

I see you had an earlier build model, but I find it kind of surprising that they would buy your vehicle back over this issue?

FYI - Our 2014 P20EE was cured with the new SCR Cat, with no problems since......now at 28K.

I started a thread describing the problems. More info is there, but basically in 2 years I needed at least 8 fixes resulting in 54 days out of commission. It was the service manager at my dealership who said I had a clear lemon law case and told me how to pursue it.

I got lucky. I bought mine in Texas and drove it straight up to Minnesota. During the replacement, they wanted me to pay a Texas $11,000 usage fee for my 40,000 miles. But since it was never registered in Texas, and only in Minnesota, there was no usage fee. I only had to pay the difference between a 2014 and a 2016 model, which was $1000, plus tax on that amount which was only $65. Funny thing is that I was due for new brakes and new tires, which would have been well over a thousand dollars. I had to endure 4 months of headaches, many trips to the shop, 3 months without my jeep, lost sleep, countless phone calls...... However, I came out with a really sweet deal in the end.

I got the P20EE on my 14. They put on the new cat and 20k miles later I still haven't seen an error code pop.
