P20EE possible on brand new vehicle?

Well I finally got an OBDII reader and it is showing 3 P20EE codes. We took our 2014 JGC Eco D Overland (purchased June 2014) in about 8 months ago, dealer gave my wife a bs story and did the software update (code did clear) and we got another code a couple weeks ago that is still lit today. Well I just remembered that on our test drive a mil light was on, and the salesman said it was some connector that gets hooked back up after shipping the vehicle to the dealer (it took like an hour). I can't help but think that first mil was the 3rd P20EE I'm reading? It almost has to be.

I guess it doesn't matter much, but was bold face lied to by 2 different dealers then.

Going to take it in to another dealer and see what they say. Admittedly the vehicle has ran perfect since day 1, which seems to be the case with P20EE, but of course we would like it fixed right for good. Guess I'm just venitng sorry for the long post.

Rick

You'll need a new CAT converter. Good luck

Re: P20EE possible on brand new vehicle?

Based on what I know about the cause of the P20EE error, it's extremely unlikely that was the MIL when the car was brand new. I believe it takes several thousand miles before the effects of too much DEF injection causes the cat to go bad. Salesman #1 may have been telling the truth (that was hard to type!)

The first reaction to the P20EE error is indeed to update the software which, among other things, decreases the amount of DEF injected. When it comes back, the next step is to replace the cat. Except for the trips to the dealer, it's a relatively easy problem to solve.

Good luck, push for a new cat whichever dealer you end up going to.
