It sounded a little defensive to me.

Yes, informed readers can make their own choices. There's plenty to read about out here.

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

CRD for the win.... it's all about that torque delivery, particularly when towing.

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

I love my Limited Ecodiesel after 12,000 miles, including almost 5000 miles towing a 4500 lb TT. Great mileage both towing and not towing. Thanks for starting this thread. ExcursionDiesel, I thought your respectful response to MDBones' criticism of this thread was on the mark. Simply stated, I looked hard at both the GC V6 and Hemi, and neither of these engines met all of my needs as well as the Ecodiesel. As you said, the motor is everything on this car, with the bonus of the great styling, electronics, 8-speed transmission, and all of the other great features shared by all of the new GC models.

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

I was amazed when I read the sales numbers on the Diesel was around 8% in the states. In Australia it is more like 80% (I'm guessing).

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

I have the 2014 4X4 diesel JGC Overland. In 30+ years of driving I have never owned a diesel before and I have to say thus far this has been a fantastic vehicle. My wife and I just got back from a 2000+ mile road trip from Houston to Durango, CO. We averaged just over 29 MPG for the trip driving 75 to 80 MPH through flat areas, hills, and mountain roads. Excellent ride and it is a very comfortable traveling car. Did not do any heavy duty 4 wheeling, but I am confident that it would handle pretty much anything that we would want to do.

We now have over 7000 miles and have not had a single issue thus far. Oil life indicator is right on 10,000 miles, DEF usage is exactly as it should be, no issues with DPF - so far performance is exactly as advertised.

We have done some minimal towing with our 5000 lb boat and the towing performance is excellent and effortless. So far very pleased with everything.

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

The primary factor in my decision to buy a JGC was the availability of a diesel engine option with sufficient torque for a vehicle this heavy. The diesel's impressive fuel economy also means exceptional range before refueling, which I really appreciate. For one thing, I can now take advantage of excellent pricing for diesel at a place I pass once every 2-3 weeks.

I took advantage of the excellent DC group buy to purchase my ecodiesel summit, and immediately took it on a long drive home to NY. About 20 miles into that trip I was playing with manual mode and surprised myself with a surge of acceleration that threw me back in my seat. A week later I towed a heavy landscape trailer loaded with equipment for about 270 miles, and could not believe how effortlessly the diesel pulled that load.

The ecodiesel JGC is equally calm crawling off-road or cruising on the highway. I find it a great match for the paddle shifters whether at slow speeds on steep gravel roads, or at higher speeds towing uphill. When traffic slows to moderate speeds, the diesel engine offers oodles of torque for quickly overtaking when the moment arises. So far the diesel engine is the overwhelming highlight of my early experience with this feature-packed SUV.

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

I've just about hit the 6 month mark of owning my 2014 GC Overland Diesel 4x4 and I love this car. I get a ton of compliments on the looks, ride quality, spaciousness and overall fit and finish of the vehicle. I have just about 5K miles on the car and the engine just keeps getting better and better. I have not yet towed anything so I can't comment on that just yet, but I had a huge smile on my face during a recent trip up and down the California Coastline in a vehicle that was as comfortable climbing the windy roads around Big Sur with ease as it was cruising down a stretch of highway at 80, all on a single tank of fuel for the entire 650 mile trip. Also, here in the Los Angeles area, Diesel has been anywhere from $0.15-$0.35 cents/gallon cheaper than regular gas, making me even happier about my choice.

Re: Positive JGC Diesel Thread

I am at the 8 month mark, and after owning 5 Jeeps, I can honestly say this is the best. The torque is amazing. The ride is quiet and smooth, and it is very fast. For those questioning a diesel, take this up a steep incline, and watch your RPM's barely move. With past V8 Jeeps, I could definitely tell when I was towing. With this thing, I have to keep looking in the mirror to make sure my boat is still there, because I can hardly tell that I am towing. Torque ,Torque, and more Torque - that's what it is all about. Best Jeep Yet!!!

What's not to like? And all that torque sitting just above idle. Can't wait to see what it will be like once I do some power upgrades!

I wouldn't tow heavy with a tuner on high settings, especially in hilly terrain. The cooling system will be overloaded and continuous EGTs will exceed safe limits. An exhaust and intake, on the other hand, lower EGTs.
