Remote Start Problems

I've been having a problem with my remote start. I've tried it numerous times and the engine will start and run for about 30 seconds and then eventually die. I'm not able to try to start it again using remote start. I then walk out, get in the car, and she starts right up without a hitch.

What is going on? Do I have a bad remote start or is this how it works on Jeeps?

Are you low on fuel?

Re: Remote Start Problems

A follow-up. Brought the car into the dealer. They looked at the codes and basically shrugged their shoulders. They said the codes were for a low fuel line pressure which basically meant that the diesel had gelled. I asked why the light didn't clear after the pressure went up and he said that code doesn't clear automatically.

One thing I learned, if the engine light is on, remote start will not work. Good to know when it gets -15 out.

Re: Remote Start Problems

This was talked about somewhere in these threads before. For some reason the remote start doesn't like really cold temps. Mine wouldn't start this morning at -17F. When I press the starter in the truck it will start right up (and I did not plug it in last night). A flaw in the system- it won't work when you most want it to. When temps get back closer to zero the remote starter works fine again.

Re: Remote Start Problems

Do you guys have a guess as to how low the temps have to be for it to start having issues? I dont have garage space and this winter it has gone down to single digits. I also dont have a way to plug it in even if i do get an engine warmer. Just wanted to see what you guys thought

I'm probably not the best person to answer this as the engine light was preventing from remote starting. It was down to -8 and it remote started and ran for 10 minutes before I got in and started it up. The next night it was down to -17 and that is when the fuel line gelled up. I bought some Power Service Diesel anti-gelling additive and will put it in if the temp decides to drop down again. Right now we are looking at lows of 20s for this week and next.

I talked with the dealer's service rep and he said that they are randomly having problems with the diesels in the cold. His diesel was fine when it dropped that cold but they had a few in the past week because of my exact problem.

As long as you are running winter blend diesel, you should be fine. The remote start does not like to work from -20 and below, but it still starts fine manually at -25.
