Just run the 5w40.

And you should be asking this question to GDE.

Had my dealer check it out with Jeep before changing the oil in my 2015. Official message was switch to 5W40 per the revised supplement manual . No flash required.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

I now 4980 miles on since switching to Rotella T6 5W-40. I've not seen one bit of performance change, nor have I seen any degradation of fuel economy. I switched two days after the new MS was posted on Jeepgarage.

The reason for concern is I'm currently under warranty and if you haven't read on this forum people are having internal engine problems with this motor and nothing is clear from Chrysler is to what they will decline if I were to have a claim down the road due to engine failure. Thanks.

The revised diesel supplement manual is VERY clear. For best performance and maximum protection under all types of operating conditions, the manufacturer recom- mends engine oils that meet the requirements of FCA Material Standard MS-10902, and that are API CJ-4 certified and meet the requirements of FCA LLC.

Amen. I am running Rotella now with no difference. I had my dealer check first to insure that there would be no warranty issues. At some point if one continues to use the old Pennzoil Euro that might be a warranty issue.

In addition: are you willing to risk an engine failure after your warranty period because you used 10W30 during it? Why not reduce your risk now? The most current owners manual recommendation is what it is. There can't be any warranty issues for following them.

I have a somewhat related question for those that have a lab analysis done with every oil change. Has there been any noticeable or significant variation in the Fuel Dilution results? Just curious.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Thanks everyone. I'm just not a oil brand switcher. In the past I've always stuck with what I started with. If I have to switch oils, I don't want to again switch to something else later on down the road. Or even worse back to what I was using before I switched in the first place. Thanks again.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Dumb question.... but is the MS 11106 Euro Pennzoil now considered an "Unacceptable oil" per the manual?

Not a dumb question at all. As long as you can point to the specifications section in your owners manual it's perfectly acceptable. What is dumb, is not following the most current manual recommendation when you're aware of them.

It's really unfortunate that the oil spec issue has come to this point of discussion. FCA could choose to be more forthcoming by issuing a voluntary recall of all prior years but, believe, the engineers aren't driving the train.

I agree. They would have to admit it wasn't thought through before they went with the 5w30.......In a diesel. Never sounded right to me in the first place.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Do dealers carry Rotella? I'm relatively new to diesels and have never heard of it, so I'm curious people really care about Rotella vs MOPAR. Seems to me the weight change to 5w40 is really the important part here, not so much the brand. All else being equal though, if that seems to be crowd favorite and dealers carry it, I may as well ask for it.
